Sandra Heaman, returning home with her parents and fam- ily. PLAN BAZAAR The WA and Guild of St. James Church held their October meeting at the home of Mrs. Rae Hodgins. The president of the WA, Mrs. Andy Carter presided and was assisted in the devotions by Mrs. Emily Tomes and Rev. E. 0. Lancaster. Church cal- endars for 1965 were received and sold to the members. All WA members were asked to meet together for a Corporate Communion service Sunday, November 29, being the day before St. Andrew's day. The November meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Emily Tomes. The Guild president, Mrs. James Cunningham presided for the meeting and 18 members answered roll call. The meet- ing was entirely taken up with final arrangements for the an- nual bazaar to be held Saturday November 7. Hostess served lunch assis- ted by Mrs. Jim Cunningham and Mrs. Art Cunningham. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Thom- Students view old mill dam This old mill dam in the Rockwood Conservation Area was one of the highlights of last week's outing for geography students at SHDHS. It is believed the mill on the site was built in 1867 and the Grand River Conservation Authority is planning to restore it. A chorus was sung by the pri- mary children and a recitation given by John Gartenburg. Jeannette Hooper favored with a piano solo. An exercise "Jack 0' Lantern was followed by a reading "A Ghost Story" by Carol Langford and a vocol solo by Shirley Timms. A play "Cathy's Dream" was given by the senior girls was followed by a recitation by Gor- don Robinson, a chorus by a group of boys and a recitation by Danny Jaques. The teacher, Mrs. Janet channel and pupils of SS 5 Hibbert were hosts to the pre- school children of the section Friday afternoon. The costumes were varied and showed much effort by the children and their parents. Prizes were won by Brenda Gardiner as an Indian Princess, complete with papoose; couple prize by Larry McCallum and Bob Johns as skeletons; Ruth Marie Harburn as a youthful witch; Jack Christie as a tramp and Linda Hackney as a Hal- lowe'en cat and Nancy McKenzie as a vagabond. The g o al is $6,304 and on Monday a total of $5,707 had been brought in. Many students have been re- ceiving "kissing dolls" since they sold 3 subscriptions. There was such a demand for these dolls that the supply ran out but more were sent. All those who sold one subscription received a small school pen- nant. The winners of the daily draw were Brian Hogarth who re- ceived $4 and Margaret Johns who received $1. Just as the Stratford Central senior girls won the senior volleyball tournament so also the junior girls repeated this performance by winning the Huron-Perth junior girls volleyball tournament at the Stratford Northwestern Second- ary School, Thursday. In the final game the Strat- ford Central juniors defeated Goderich 15-6 and 15-11 to ensure them of five wins and no losses. Goderich had been the winner in the division consisting of St. Marys, Clinton, South Huron and Stratford N. W. while Strat- ford Central had defeated Lis- towel, Seaforth, Wingham and Mitchell in the other division. In South Huron's first match they were defeated by Clinton 15-6 and 15-1. They looked more promising in the next match when they trounced Goderich 15-0 in the second game but were defeated 15-8 and 15-13 in the other two games. Sylvia Cann accounted for six points in the second game and Darlene Par sons and Chris Shaw collected five and four points respectively. South Huron was again de- feated 15-12 and 15-6 when they played St. Marsy despite the efforts of Darlene Parsons who sent six balls across the net in the first game. In their last match against Stratford NW they were finally victorious as they won 15-0 and 15-12. Wright passes suddenly Mrs. George Wright, 80, died at her late residence, Main Street, Exeter, Monday, No- vember 2. She was the former Ada Lot- tie Tucker and following her marriage to George Wright they farmed in Usborne Township until retiring to Exeter 19 years ago. She is survived by her hus- band, three sons, Harvey of Kirkton; Melvin, Winnipeg; Ce- cil, Granton; one daughter, Mrs. Garfield (Blossom) Thomson, Exeter. Funeral services were con- ducted by Rev. Harry Wuerch, London, at the Hopper-Hockey funeral home, Exeter, Wednes- day, November 4 with inter- ment in Exeter cemetery.
