The $9-year-old United
Church here held its Harvest
Thanksgiving service Sunday
afternoon Oct. 25 with a large
crowd, The minister, The Rev.
G. W. Seth, had Mr. David W.
Stewart, London, as guest
speaker. He is a graduate of
Medway and a student president.
He now takes his BA and goes
to study theology at Knox Col-
lege, Toronto. His message was
"Lord, What Wilt Thouhave me
to do?"
Twenty-five members from
Zion EUB Church choir, Credi-
ton including the pastor, the
Rev. A. M. Schlenker, sang two
anthems accompanied by Mrs.
Fahrner who also accompanied
Mr. Stephen Dundas, leader in
a violin solo. During the offer-
tory Mrs. G. W. Sach, pianist,
played and also accompanied
for the hymns.
Sunday, starting Nov. 1, ser-
vices will be 'et 2 pm.
The ladies of the UCW here
will have a bazaar and tea
Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm.

THAMES ROAD
The first fall meeting of the
Happy Doubles Club was held in
the church basement last Wed-
nesday evening with 60 in atten-
dance when the club entertained
former members and the Double
or Nothing Club from Thames-
ford.
Rev. W. J. Moores formed
the club in January 1954. Rev.
Moores was unable to bp pre-
sent due to ill health.

Mrs. W. R. Cooper of Strat-
ford was guest speaker at a
meeting of the Guild and WA
Thursday evening in St. Paul's
Church, Kirkton.
Ladies from Saintsbury and
Granton were also pres en t.
Mrs. Lyle Bennett conducted
the meeting. Mrs. Garth Black-
ler favored with a solo. Lunch
was served by the ladies.
Lorne Ballantyne opened the
meeting and Mrs. Pat Bailan-
tyne, Rev. Hugh and Mrs. Wil-
son assisted with the worship
service.
Mrs. Almer Passmore, pre-
sident, conducted the business.
Rev. Hugh Wilson introduced
the guest speaker Rev. Grant
Mills. Mr. Mills gave an inter-
esting report of the recent Gen-
eral Council meeting in St.
Johns, Newfoundland and Lorne
Ballantyne expressed thanks in
a few words. A charter member
Mr. Robert Hem sang two num-
bers, which were well received.
Rev. Hugh Wilson spoke about
the cross Rev. W. J. Moores
had made and of the plaque the
Happy Doubles Club have put on
the cross which sits on the
communion table.
Games, contests and lunch
brought an enjoyable evening
to a close.

Ronald Elford sang a number.
The front of the church was
decorated by pots of yellow
mums and two baskets of yellow
and mauve mums were placed
by the family in memory of the
late Grant Gilfillan. A large

wood, who is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital. He suffered
a stroke Oct. 4. He is slightly
improved.

tertained her granddaughter,
Mrs. Joe Machovyak and her
son, David Paul of Dearborn,
Mich. for a week. They left
Saturday and plan to go onfrom
Dearborn to Cleveland, Ohio,
where Mr. Machovyak is now
employed.

dies in Detroit
There passed away in Lincoln
Hospital, Detroit, Mich. Friday,
October 23 Janet Davidson, wife
of Edward J. Dundas of Detroit,
formerly of McGillivray town-
ship.
She was the daughter of the
late James and Elizabeth David-
son, Hamilton, Scotland. She
was born in South Wales, Aus-
tralia but grew up in Hamilton,
Scotland. She married her hus-
band nine years ago and resided
in Detroit.
She is survived by her hus-
band, two brothers, William,
Kent, England; Roy, Glasgow,
Scotland, and was predeceased
by one brother James. She is
also survived by three stepsons,
James of London, Bruce of
Montreal and David of St. Thom-
as.
A funeral service was held
