Have to change name of farm
The "Lone Elm Farm" of Homer Russell, RR 1 Exeter, will have to be changed as that lone elm
from which it derived its name was recently cut down. The present owner's father, Milt, 79,
recalled that James Russell had thought of cutting the tree down when he was building his log cabin
after arriving from Scotland some 120 years ago. The tree was notched to mark it to be cut, but
the early settler changed his mind and left it. The blemish remained for many years, and finally
disappeared, but a new blemish — and more deadly — followed in the form of Dutch Elm Disease.
The tree was believed to be over 150 years old and stood close to 100' high. The two Russell men
are shown here looking at the landmark, while Pat and John Joynt, Hensall, look on. They are Milt
Russell's grandsons. --T-A photo

Exeter church filled for visitor's talk
Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church was filled to capacity Wednesday, when a congregation from
throughout Huron attended a special service to hear Bishop Erica Sabiti of Africa. Several clergy
assisted in the service along with a huge mass choir. Bishop Sabiti told his Canadian friends
that while his people were thankful for the help to date, much more is still needed. He is shown
before the service discussing the program with Archdeacon Carman J. Queen, left, and Rev. P. J.

it
It's a Volkswagen 1500. It's a big car because it can carry seven children, a mother and eight smiles.
Or it can hold five grown-ups sitting down. It's a small Car because it's three feet shorter than most
station wagons. And it's a compact because we don't waste a single inch of space. The engine is hidden
away deep down in the back. So you have a 5'e foot flat loading area. And up under the front hood
there's a trunk,• Just like in Volkswagen's famous beetle-shaped sedan And our VW 1500 has
all the other advantages of the more familiar looking Volkswagen. It gets better footing in mud and snow
because the engine weight is over the drive Wheels. There's no radiator to freeze or boil.
And it doesn't use much gas. The VW 1500 usually gets about 35 miles on a gallon.
That goes a long way with seven children and a mother. )1
