MARK BIRTHDAY An enjoyable evening was spent Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker when members of Mr.Parker's family surprised him on his birthday. Relatives attended from Hen- sall, Exeter, London and Grand Bend. Constable Douglas Wein RCMP and Mrs. Wein (Gerald- ine) of Inverness, Nova Scotia, who are vacationing here, at- tended the gathering. Mr. Hugh Scott returned to Guelph Sunday to begin his fourth year term as student at the OAC. Miss Laura Chappel has ac- cepted a position in the office of Dr. G. McKeon, Mitchell. President Mrs. yern Alder- dice opened the meeting and conducted the business. A new member, Mrs. Gerald Bell was welcomed. Jobs were assigned for the work detail at the cook- ing school to be held in Hensall October 7, The leaders for the new 4-H project are Mrs. Ernest White- house and Mrs, Vivan Cooper. Any girls over 12 years of age may take this project by con- tacting the leaders before Octo- ber 1, Mrs. William Kyle will be the contestant for Kippen WI on the "Live a Borrowed Life" feature of the program for the Huron County rally to be held in Hensel' October 7. Plans were made for the exhibit at Exeter Fair and the bus trip October 28 was out- lined by Mrs. James Drum- mond. Roll call was answered by naming an industry unknown to "our grandmothers." A con- test was arranged by Mrs. Jack Consitt. Hostesses were Mrs. Alex McGregor and Mrs. Harry Caldwell. They were assisted at the lunch hour by Mrs. Charles Eyre, Mrs. Wm. Kyle, Mrs. Glen Bell and Mrs. An- thony VanLoon. The Arnold Circle at Carmel Presbyterian Church resumed meetings Monday evening with president Mrs. Gordon Schwalm in the chair. Mrs. Robert Bell reported on Huron Presbyterial held in Clinton. Mrs, R. A. Orr and Mrs. Trevor Wilson led the devotional period using the theme "Obey." Miss L. McFalls was appoint- ed leader of the CGIT and it was decided to send cards to the sick and bereaved of the congre- gation. Mrs. Beverly Beaton expressed appreciation to the new Sunday School teachers: Mrs. Schwalm, Mrs. John Skea and Rev. S. McFalls. The group will be responsible for flowers in the church for October. Conveners for Thanksgiving Sunday service are Mrs. Skea, Mrs. J. E. McEwen and Mrs. Orr. Plans were outlined for the thanksgiving meeting October 19 for which Rev, McFalls will be guest speaker. Local bachelor dies at age 9l Mr. Samuel Buchanan, 91, a highly esteemed resident of Hensel' died in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, Thursday, September 17 where he had been a patient for seven weeks. He was born in Tuckersmith, farmed in Medicine Hat, Alta. retiring to Hensel! 12 years ago. He was unmarried. SurVIving are three sisters, Miss Margaret Buchanan, Hen- sail; Miss Mary Buchanan RN, Toronto; (Jessie) Mrs. George Armstrong, Henson. Public funeral services cone ducted by Rev. H. F.
