The citizenship and education
committee with Mrs. Hugh
Boyle convenor was in charge
of the WI meeting and Mrs.

Roll call was suggestions for
improving the Institute. Mrs.
Leonard Schenk discussed the
motto, "Wisdom is in knowing
when to speak and when to mind
your speech." A men's quartet,
Jack Gaiser, Harry Hoffman,
Mervyn Tiernan and Stuart
Wolfe sang several numbers
accompanied by Mrs. Merrill
James.
Mrs. Carl Oestreicher gave
the duties of citizenship and
education from the hand book.
Mrs. Hugh Boyle had as her
topic the Mary Stewart Collect.
Two films on education were
shown by Wm. Becker.
The president, Mrs. Syd Bak-
er presided for the business.
The county rally is to be held
in Hensall Oct. 5. Mrs. Melvin
Desjardine of Grand Bend is
speaking and showing pictures
on her recent trip to Europe
at the October meeting. Each
member is asked to bring a jar
of jam or jelly to be donated
to South Huron hospital. Mrs.
Leonard Schenk and Mrs. Rud-
olph Miller will be the leaders
for the 4-H project, ,,The club
girl stands on guard". A cook-
ing school will be held in Hensall
October 7.

Susan Steinberg, 15, daughter
of Mr, and Mrs. Lloyd Steinberg
of Kitchener, while vacationing
at Durand Beach, north of St.
Joseph fell and fractured her
leg. She was attended by Dr.
John Goddard of Hensall and
transferred by Hoffman ambu-
lance to St. Mary's hospital,
Kitchener,
Mrs. Steinberg is the daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Druar of the Zurich district.
Mr. H. L a ngl le, Centre
Street, Grand Bend, of Detroit
fell from a horse Saturday eve-
ning. Ha was attended by Dr.
E. A. McMaster of Grand Bend
and taken by Hoffman's ambu-
lance to South Huron hospital,
Mr, Lockle Muchmore, em-
ployee of the Canada Dredge
Co. of Toronto, collapsed while
working on the London pipeline
at Port Blake. He was attended
by Dr. McMaster and was trans-
ferred by Hoffman ambulance
to Hotel Dieu Hospital, King-
ston, from South Huron hospital.
Mr. G. E. Clemes, Oakwood
Inn, Toronto resident, suffered
a heart attack and was attended
by Dr. McMaster and trans-
ferred by Hoffman ambulance
to Victoria hospital, London.
Mr. Coursey Brown of Far-
quhar suffered a heart attack
and was taken by Hoffman am-
bulance to South Huron hospital,
Exeter.
Mrs. John P. Couliman of
Grand Bend fell clown the cellar
steps at her home Monday and
suffered a broken arm, broken
leg and head cuts. She was
attended by Dr. A.E. McMaster
and taken to South Huron hos-
pital Exeter by Hoffman am-
bulance.

Similar to the rest of the students attending the new Usborne Township central school, these grade
one students were undoubtedly thrilled with their surroundings and the pleasure of riding a bus to
school, rather than walking. However, the youngsters being greeted here by Mrs. Stuart Keith,
are among the ever-increasing number of area children who will have to be satisfied with listen-
ing to stories about the days of walking to school and being taught in the one-room country school.

The annual Rader picnic was
held at Riverview Park Exeter,
September 6, with some 65 in
attendance. President Herb
Bills of Cass City, Michigan,
welcomed everyone and conduc-
ted the business.
Sports were conductedby Mr.
and Mrs. Glen Rader and Ken-
neth Rader. Results for 5 and
under were Jayne Hayter; 6-8,
Janice Hayter and Tommy Hay-
ter; 9-11, Darlene Rader and
Neil Gamble; 12-15, Ray Tay-
lor; a candy scramble was held
for the wee ones; throwing ball
the shortest distance, Sharon
Rader; sack race, Jim and Doug
Rader and Neil Gamble; shave

The UCW met in the church
basement Wednesday evening
with Mrs. Bev Alexander and
Mrs. Lorne Ballantyne as hos-
tesses,
President Mrs. Edwin Miller
opened the meeting. The theme
was "Beginning Again" follow-
ed with the worship service
assisted by Mrs. Jack Duncan
and Mrs. ROSS Hodgert.
Business was discussed and
it was decided to have some
more cook books printed.
Mrs. William Rohde, pro-
gram convenor, took charge
of the meeting. A piano solo
was given by Nancy Alexander.
Mrs. Hugh Wilson introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. George
Wilson of Woodharn who spoke
on Ceylon and other interesting
places in India. Mrs. Wilson
showed a lot of different Items
she had brought home with her
from India including a sari.
