Roger Winger of Bire iningham, England, was guest speaker in Veil Lutheran church Sunday morning. At the close of the service he showed pictures of the work going on in England and told some facts on Rev, Bob i3ruer, who is also a missionary in England. Many of Bob's rela- tives were in the audience in- cluding his mother, Mrs. Frieda Bruer of New Hamburg. Rev. Winger has beenin Eng- land for the past six years and will return to take charge of a new congregation being formed for the Lutherans of the area around Birmingham. The Lutheran church has opened an average of one new church hi England for each of the past 10 years and there are now i2 such eongregations in that country. • The project in Engla.nd is partially subsidized by the Nis, souri Synod of the Lutheran George Brown active in church George Brown, 83, a former resident of Dashwood, died in the Red Cross Hospital, Burks Falls, August 5 following a short illness, He had been a resident of South River since 1904 and had retired from his position as a section man with the CNR in 1946. He had been a member of the Official Board of Chalmers Uni- ted Church for 34 years. Since the death of his wife, the former Mabel May Malow- ney in 1956 he had made his home with his son, Milton, in South River. Surviving are six sons, Gor- don, Toronto; Milton, South River; Clayton, Toronto; Earl, Midland; Norman, South River and Roy, North Bay, also three sister s, Miss Clara Brown, Calgary, Alta., Mrs. H. Burns, London, and Mrs. R. Elliott, Thedford, Funeral services were con- ducted at Chalmers United Church, Saturday, August 8, with interment in South River cemetery. Pallbearers were four sons, Earl, Gordon, Clay- ton and Roy and two grandsons, Andrew and Wade Brown. LET I.M.T. Guests attended from Detroit, Hamilton, London, Exeter, Ailsa Craig and Dashwood. Church, of which the Dashwood congregation is part. Rev. Winger said they hope to have a Lutheran church in each of the major centres in Eegland. They also have a pen., gregatipn in Wales and another in Scptland. The Dashwood congregation Was told this movement was being made in an effort to bring Christ to more English pepple. Rev. Winger said that while it is a predpminantly Christian country, statistics show that 90% to 95% of the population have no active interest in any church. Rey. Mr. & Mrs. Albert Smith, London, were recent visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Alton Neil. Maier clan hold first get-together The families of the late. Mr. and Mrs. William Maier of Dashwood held their first re- union Sunday at the Dashwood Community Centre, due to bad weather. The eldest living son, Well- ington (Bill) Maier of Mio, Mi- chigan, was present. He has taken great interest in getting the families of his deceased sisters Mrs. Albert (Eleanor) Morenz and Mrs. Fred (Lindie) Genttner and late brothers Ed- ward and George Maier, Detroit together. There were around '15 present for a buffet dinner and supper. Roy Morenz was in charge of election of officers and making the plans for the coming year. Howard Maier, Dashwood, was elected president; for Sec. Treasurer, Mrs. HowardMaier was elected. The convenor of the sports next year is Gerald Maier, London. It was voted to hold the second reunion in1965, the third Sunday in August, at the Dashwood Community Cen- tre. Roy Boerner, Mio, Michigan, was master of ceremonies for sports and contests. The Bill Maier, Sr. families, the Morenz families and the Ed Maier fam- ilies each provided games, con- tests and sports. They were all enjoyed by young and old. The eldest men present were Fred Genttner and Bill Maier, Sr., the eldest lady was Mrs. Ed Maier. The youngest baby belonged to Mr. & Mrs. Howard Maier. There were families present from Mio, Michigan, London, Exeter, Thamesford, Goderich, Dashwood and Grand Bend. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Martin McGren- ere and family of London are vacationing with Otto Reste- mayor. Mr. & Mrs. George Wolfe of Toronto and Mr. & Mrs. Murray Wolfe and family of Montreal vacationed with Mrs. Wes Wolfe and other relatives last week. Mrs. Cora Gather has re- turned home following a trip through the States and the east coast with her daughter and family, Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Seebach of Hamilton. Mr. & Mrs. Wilbur Stewart of London were visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Gaiser and Kim last week. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Qudmore of Willowdale spent a few days with Mrs. Effie Kleinstiver last week. Mrs. Albert Rader re- turned home with them and spent a few days. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Kerchoff from Freeport, Illinois visited over the weekend with Rev. & Mrs. M. J. James and family. Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Snell and Beth spent the weekend at Pem- broke with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Neuman. Stanley Heist and two friends from Zurich left for Dinsmore, Sask. to visit his sister and family, Mr. & Mrs. Fran k Dutertre. Mr. Harry Campeau and Mrs. Theresa Joyce of Detroit spent the weekend with Mrs. Lucinda Mclsaac. Mr. & Mrs. Ken Clark of Dresden were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Rudolph Miller.
