And though there are many excellent com- mercial sauces available for this popular dairy food, we still like a home-made sauce. Here are three new sauce recipes that are delicious over the different flavors of ice cream. The offertory music was an organ and piano duet by Elaine and Marie Powe, drained canned mandarin or•! angee. Measure cranberry s into a bowl; break up with a fork, if necessary, Blend in corn syrup. Add oranges and combine lightly. This recipe makes 1 3/4 cuPs sauce. * Making use of rhubarb while it is in season here is a recipe for a light tangy dessert, per- fect after a hearty main course.. Crisp ginger cookies are an ex- cellent accompaniment. STORE CHANGES HANDS Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Zavits of Strathroy have purchased the Osborne General Store. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Osborne and Robin left Wednesday of last week for Havelock where they plan to reside. 11111111111011111111111111IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII11111111811111111 LEMON BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup corn syrup 1/8 tp salt 1/2 cup evaporated milk 1 (16-ounce) can frozen con- centrated lemonade Measure into a saucepan the butter, sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil stirring constantly until sugar is dis- solved. Reduce heat and boil without stirring, 2 minutes. Re- move from heat; stir in evap- orated milk and lemonade. Cool. Serve warm or cold. Sauce may be kept refrigerated in a cover- ed glass jar. ICE CREAM GOES "FESTIVE" WHEN TOPPED WITH A SCRUMPTIOUS SAUCE RHUBARB DELIGHT 2 cups fresh or frozen rhubarb cut in 1 inch pieces 1/2 cup sugar 1 tbl unflavored gelatin 1/4 cup cold water 1/4 cup boiling water 1/2 cup sugar 1 tbl orange juice 1 tbl orange rind 1 tp vanilla 4 egg whites 1/4 tp salt 1/2 cup Sugar Cook rhubarb, 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tbl water for five minutes. Soak gelatin in cold water and then dissolve in boiling water. Stir in 1/2 cup sugar, orange juice and rind, cooked rhubarb and vanilla. Chill this mixture. Meanwhile whip egg whites and salt until stiff; add 1/2 cup sugar gradually, beating con- stantly. When rhubarb mixture is chilled,whip until frothy and then fold in meringue, blending only until it is well mixed. Pour into a mold and chill until firm. This makes about six servings. F..• E EXETER Frili11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111IM PEACH AND PINEAPPLE SAUCE 1 (20 oz) can pineapple chunks or tidbits 1/2 cup orange juice 1 tbl cornstarch 1 cup sliced peaches (well drained canned or fresh) 1 tbl butter Turn pineapple and syrup into a saucepan; stir in orange juice and cornstarch. Cook over me- dium heat, stirring constantly until smoothly thickened. Cover and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Re- move from heat and stir in peaches and butter. Serve warm or cold. KEN McKELLAR CROMARTY The meeting of the Marian Ritchie Evening Auxiliary was held in the church with • 16 members and three visitors present. Mrs. R. Laing pre- sided. Mrs. Duncan Scott was pianist. Devotions were led by Mrs. Lorne Elliott assisted by Mrs. Lloyd Miller. Mrs. Cliff Miller and Mrs. G. Carey favored with a duet. Mrs. Harold Parsons gave as her topic a history of Cromarty church. The president MrS. John Mil- ler conducted the business per- iod. It was decided to have a plastic demonstration in July. Mrs. Gordon Scott gave a report of the work committee and each member was given a quilt block to work. More recipes were requested by the cook book committee. Mrs. J. M. Scott and Mrs. T. L. Scott who attended the 100th WMS anniversary in Montreal gave a report of their experiences. Mi s s Margaret Kennedy was the speaker on three occasions using as her topics "The Invitation," "The Challenge" and the "Commands of Jesus". Mervin Dow and Gerald Carey. This was the second of five national conferences to be held across Canada during this year. The theme was "No Other Gods" and the speakers were Dr. Kenneth G. McMillan, na- tional secretary of the Canadian Bible Society, and Rev. Basil E. Plans were completed for the bazaar tea and bake sale to be held in the parish hall, June 10. The mystery prize donated by Mrs. Heber Davis was won by Mrs. Harry Carroll.
