Kinettes stage
rummage sale
Hensel/ Kinettes were pleas-
ed with the success of their
spring rummage sale held Sat-
urday at the local Arena with
many buyers from H en sail,
community, and out of town
attending. Three cartons of good
used clothing not sold was given
to the UCW for their bale which
is being packed June 2.
Penny sale draw will be held
in Legion Hall Saturday May 30
at 10 pm for over 50 prizes
donated by businessmen of Hen-
sall and district.

son returned Monday from a
weekend fishing trip at Kirk-
field, on Lake Simcoe. They
reported fishing poor owing to
rough weather.

neral of the late Miss Olive
Coxworth Monday from the Bon-
thron Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Lou Simpson, who has
been a patient in Clinton Public
Hospital, returned home Satur-
day.

UCW unit 3 met Monday eve-
ning May 25 with Mrs. Ron Mock
in the chair.
The devotional "Live Your
Faith" was conducted by Mrs.
Walker Carlile, assisted by
Mrs. Eric Mansfield and Mrs.
Jack Simmons. This unit will
be responsible for the nursery
and church flowers for June.
Mrs. Orrin Williams pre-
sented the study "The Way in
India and Nepal", Mrs. Wm.
Fuss rendered a solo accom-
panied at the piano by Mrs.
Cecil Pepper, pianist for the
unit. Mrs. Williams was pre-
sented with a going away gift
of a cup and saucer by Miss
Mary Goodwin.

St. Andrew's UCW held their
meeting in the Sunday school
rooms Tuesday evening May 12.
Twenty three ladies were in
attendance.
The meeting opened with Mrs.
0. Workman taking the worship,
Mrs. B. Faber, the president,
chaired the meeting. Mrs. K.
Lovell accompanied at the piano
by Mrs. L. Lovell sang a solo.
Mrs. H. Jones took the topic
on "India". She had a tape re-
cording on the subject with a
question and answer period
afterwards.
Plans were discussed for the
summer months and it was
agreed to hold a strawberry
supper on June 1'7 in theSunday
school rooms. A bale is to be
packed for overseas the first
week of June and any good used
clothing will be acceptable.
Courtesy remarks were given
by Mrs. E, McBride, after which
Mrs. L. Lovell, hostess, assis-
ted by Mrs. K. Lovell served
lunch. This was followed with a
penny sale which brought in a
goodly amount for the unit.

Miss Carol Brown, Seaforth,
formerly of Hensall, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brown,
was awarded two gold medals,
three silver medals and a
bronze medal at the Stratford
Kiwanis Music Festival last
week. She also received $25
scholarship to assist in her
music studies.
Carol, who is organist of
First Presbyterian Church,
Seaforth, was awarded a mark
of 87 by adjudicator James Gibb,
who said of her performance
Friday it had "great sweep and
splendor". He found in it "gen-
uine charm and simplicity".
Again in her playing in the
piano solo, concert group, open,
Mr. Gibb found great promise.
She had a sensitive opening, he
said, and a "good ear for the
romantic Sibelius". The climax
was well played, he said, and
the final passages had a steady,
clear and fine tone.
During July Carol plans to
continue her studies at the Royal
Conservatory of Music in Tor-
onto.

Olive Coxworth
lived in Detroit
Private funeral services for
the late Miss Olive May Cox-
worth were held Monday, May
25, from Bonthron Funeral
Home conducted by Rev. Harold
F. Currie. Interment was in
Hensall Union Cemetery.
Miss Coxworth, who was in
her '74th year, was born inHen-
sail and spent a greater part
of her life in Detroit. She was
admitted to the Queensway Nur-
sing Home here from McCor-
mick Nursing home, London, a
month ago, where she died Fri-
day, May 22.
She is survived by neices and
nephews Mrs. Bert Horton and
Mrs, P. L. McNaughton, Hen-
sall; Mrs. Gordon \Tickers of
Newmarket and Harold Scruton,
Port Dover.
Kippen East Women's Insti-
tute meeting was held at the
home of the president Mrs.
Vern Alderdice Wednesday
evening, May 20, with the pre-
sident presiding.
The roll call "When did I
plant my garden" was answer-
ed by 22 members. Mrs. Wilmer
Broadfoot gave the topic on
"The Origin of Mother's Day"
and also read a poem.
Reports were given by Mrs.
Wm. Kyle and Mrs. Vivan Coop-
er, delegates to the District
Annual. District Director Mrs.
Wm. Bell gave an account of
her first day at Officers' Con-
ference in Guelph, and Mrs.
James McNaughton reported on
the meeting of the historical
society in Goderich May 6.
It was decided that the new
cook books should go on sale at
$1,00 per copy. Mrs. Harry
Caldwell demonstrated the
making of an orange dessert.
Mrs. Ken McKay won the des-
sert in a draw.
Mrs. Ernie Whitehouse con-
ducted an intriguing contest.
Each member received the
name of her sunshine pal for
this year.
Hostesses were Mrs. Ross
Chapman, Mrs. Ross Sararas,
Mrs. Robert Kinsman, and Mrs.
Jack Consitt.

tended the funeral Tuesday of
their infant granddaughter,
daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ivan
Wren of Hanover. The baby died
Sunday noon in the Sick Chil-
dren's Hospital, Toronto.
