Tr IVItt Memorial Anglican
Church, B7ceter and St, Paul's
Anglican church, Hensall,
gether with churches across the
country, observed last Sunday
as AngliCan World Mission Sun-
day.
As a result of last years
Anglican Congress in Toronto,
when 1,000 leaders of the Angli-
can Church from around the
world gathered, a new concern
for the WPrld mission Of the
Church has been created.
The Exeter congregation have
set the figure of $259.00 as their
financial objective this year,
with the Hensall church aiming
for $30.00. These sums are in
addition to the regular mission
budget of the church, and will
be allotted to specific projects.
The special projects for the
Exeter and Hensall congrega-
tions are in the Dioceses of
Zululand and Swaziland, South
Africa.
The money raised will go to
aid the work of the Charles
Johnson Memorial Hospital at
Ngutu and St. Mary's Hospital
KwaMagwaza. These hospitals
minister to the poorest patients
and unpaid and insufficient fees
cannot make up the difference
between operating costs and
Provincial government grants.
Malnutrition and tuberculosis
are the great scourges of the
region. More than one-third of
all babies born alive in Zululand
die in the first two years of
life through malnutrition. The
Ngutu hospital provides full
medical service and ministers
to 30,000 out-patients and 3,500
in-patients annually.
In his sermon last Sunday,
the Rev. J. Philip Gandon told
both congregations "no matter
how much you put in an envelope,
this does not, and cannot com-
plete your part in the Anglican
World Mission. We must each
and every one be prepared to go
on to learn more through prayer
and study in the days ahead. We
shall enter Into correspondence
with our partners in Africa that
we may share our Christian life
with them more realistically."
During the Fall a series of
studies will be made by local
Anglicans about World Mission,
and particularly about the medi-
cal work of the Church in Zu-
luland and Swaziland.
