The church was filled Friday
evening when the children from
Usborne Township School Area
presented a music festival.
The program consisted of
choruses, solos, recitations and
a rhythm band. A. E, Furtney
of Stratford, music teacher,
conducted the children with
Mrs. Reg Hodgert at the piano.
Mrs. H. L. Sturgis of Exeter
is music teacher for SS 2
Thames Road.
The rite of baptism will be
administered Sunday morning
at the annual Mother's Day
service which will be a com-
bined service at 11:15 am. The
Sunday School members are
asked to meet at 15 minutes
earlier.

Mrs. Vera Coward of Exeter
was a Sunday guest with Mr.
& Mrs. William Snow and fa-

Pupils of Exeter Public School
at their music festival Wednes-
day, seven students will have
their names engraved on the
four championship trophies.
The adjudicator; Miss H.
Guenther, Milverton, listed ties
In several divisions of the all-
day event.
Sharing top honors in the fes-
tival sponsored by the school
board were Danny Laing, Janet
Davis and Paula Barrett.
Danny was awarded 86 marks
for his solo in the grade six
boys' class, while Janet receiv-
ed the same mark in the grade
six girls' division axid Paula du-
plicated the effort in competi-
tion with other grade seven
girls.
They were declared senior
champions.
Wendy Coughlin copped the
junior girls' championship with
a mark of 85 in the grade four
division, while three boys shar-
ed the junior award.
They each scored 84 marks
and were: John Vriese, grade
two; Robert Whilsmith, grade
three, Richard Ottewell, grade
four.
Miss Guenther commented on
the ',excellence,' of the singing
and the high standard which the
students displayed.
She also gave the students
some helpful instruction as to
how they could improve their
work. Principal Arthur Idle
commented this was much ap-
preciated and was a very worth-
while part of the festival.
The competition was under
the direction of the music su-
pervisor, Lawrence Wein.
Members of the Home and
School Association assisted
with the program as well.
Mrs. Gerald Godbolt, Mrs.
Ross Tuckey and Principal Ar-
thur Idle were chairmen and
the secretaries were Mrs. Don
Ecker and Mrs. Jack Fulcher.
Representing the school
board was Ray Frayne, who
presented certificates and spe-
cial awards at the concert of
winners staged the same even-
ing.
A large crowd was on hand
to hear the performances of
the winning songsters.
Pictures of all the winners
are published this week with
the exception of the mixed
double trio competitors.
Placing first with 87 marks
were: Judy Burke, Joanne Whil-
smith, Yvonne Penhale, Mary
Wilson, Gordon Page and Mi-
chael McLaughlin.
Second with 86 were: Mary
Lou Howard, Julia Heywood,
Judy Estey, Ellen Robins, Da-
vid Frayne and Charles Snider.
The third place trio was com-
prised of Miriam Hiltz, Marsha
Adams, Cathy Cann, Heather
McLeod, Jim Parker and Bruce
Fulcher.
At the Wednesday night per-
formance, the glee club also
rendered four numbers which
were much enjoyed.
Mrs. Lorne Kleinstiver act-
ed as pianist for some of the
program.
