Hockee Assoeiation Junior "D"
chameionehip!
the victory Was a two-fold
climax for Manager George
Beer and Coach Bob McKinley,
It marked the first time in his-
tory that a Shamrock Associa-
tion team has won the Provincial
crown. Secondly, it was a first
OHA title ' for the combined
communities of Hensall and
Zurich in junior competition.
Jubilation was at its peak as
the fans swarmed onto the ice

representative Don Buddp pre-
sented team Captain Bruce Hor-
ton with the "D" trophy, em-
blematic of junior supremacy
throughout Ontario.
The game was a thriller all
the way. Stouffville, with their
backs to the wall took an early
4 2 lead and held on for a 3-2
edge at the end of the f ir st
period.
Combines turned on the heat
in the second to outscore the
Clippers 4-0.
Hensall-Zurich ran the count
to 7-3 by the 5;39 mark of the
third period and it looked as
though it was all over but the
shouting, but as a Hollywood
script writer would have it, it
wasn't. Stouffville r am m ed
home four unanswered goals
within three minutes and 58
seconds to force overtime.
During the overtime session,
Combines came through like
real champions! They outskated
and out-bumped the Clippers at
every turn. When the firing
ceased, Combines had register-
ed three unanswered goals for
their 10-'? victory.
The win gave them the best-
of-seven Ontario finals four
games to one.
The line of Mike Cushman,
Bruce Cooper and Bob Liver-
more was the main cog in this
one as the trio triggered eight
goals. Three went to each
Livermore and Cooper while
Cushman chipped in with the
other two.
Dennis Morrissey, a member
of Combines' kid line compris-
ing Bill Chipchase and Bob Hoff-
man, scored the opening goal of
the game. Craig Chapman netted
the other in the overtime ses-
sion.

pionship, Bob McKinley is to be commended for
the way in which he 'handled the coaching reins.
Manager George. Beer's 'tireless efforts in mould-
ing a contender together ,certainly proved its
validity. Combines brought many months of pleas-
ing hockey to the district. Capping it off with a
provincial crown, undoubtedly makes all the head,
'aches, heartaches and sleepless nights worth,
while,
Lucan-Ilderton Combines are on the honor
list too! Despite the fact they failed to upset Pic-
ton McFarlands in the Intermediate "B" provin-
cial finals, this club has been a great credit to
Lucan and its residents.
It's disappointing when a club travels so
far down the playoff trail and becomes the
bridesmaid in the final instead of the bride. How-
ever, an was not lost as many new friends and
personalities were made during weekend visits.
L-I were hampered by injuries throughout the
final set but it's all in the game. A good shot in
the Intermediate ranks may bring the OHA title
home next year.
Last but not least, hurrahs are extended
to all bowling league '.champions in Zurich, Grand
Bend, Lucan and Exeter. This goes to adult
leagues as well as the junior divisions.
Did you know that the RCAF Training
Command volleyball champions are from the lo-
cal RCAF Station Centralia? Congratulations gen-
tlemen!
CUFF CLEANERS—It was like "Old Home
Week" in Stouffville last Wednesday night. While
there watching the junior contest between H-Z
and the Clippers we 'met the smiling faces of
Glen Robinson, once an active bowler and gro-
cery proprietor in this area; Bill McCrae, ex-Mo-
hawk star with the local intermediates and one
time coach of H-Z juniors; Chuck Parsons, who
toiled for the Mohawk intermediate baseball
club as few seasons hack; and Mr. Ferne MacLean
who sent a donation all the way from Toronto
for support of the Exeter swimming pool drive.
. . . . By the way, Bill McCrae drove all the way
up from Tennessee, U.S.A., where he and his
family are presently living, to see the final games
of the series . . .On the national scene, the
only reason Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stan-
ley Cup was because—they scored more goals
than Detroit! How about that! We'll be looking
for your annual baseball predictions in next
week's T-A edition. My old buddy Ross Haugh
will be rounding up the summaries .and doing a
story on them. So give "Rosco" a call When you
have them or drop them into the newspaper of-
fice. . . Back on the home front, many thanks
to the people who so graciously helped the E.M.-
HA. by purchasing a chocolate bar last Satur-
day . . . . It won't be long before softball and
baseball teams will be organized . . . . The after-
TOUT Public School league will again operate
throughout the month of June.
We have been informed that the Exeter
Ladies won the Inter-Town "B" bowling cham-
pionship by three pins last Saturday because
"Brocko" bowled a healthy 99 game. (Or was it
326?)
