anniversary of their founder

February 20 at their weekly
meeting Monday night in J.A.D.
McCurdy School auditprium.
Mrs, Gwen McDonald, dis-
trict commissioner, was pre,
sent and led the Brownies in a
candlelighting ceremony, as-
sisted by Brown Owl Sandra
Massey, Tawny Owl Heather
McConnell and Packie Susan
Lenk. Each Brownie lighted her
candle, which represented one
of the Tenderfoot countries of
the Guide Movement, from the
blue candle which represented
the sisterhood of Guiding.
Also each Brownie presented
pennies according to her age to
assist in the World Guide Move-
ment.
Games and a sing-song con-
cluded the meeting after which
refreshments were served by
the Guiders.
Final arrangements were
made for the Guide-Scout
church parade which was held to
the RCAF Protestant and Roman
Catholic Chapels Sunday, Feb-
ruary 23.

YUM YUM SALAD
Mrs. Jack Doerr made this
Yum Yum salad and decorated
it with flowers in the Hawaiian
style.
Heat 2 cups cannedpineapple,
add juice of 1 lemon, 1 cup
granulated sugar and stir until
dissolved.
Soak 2 tbl gelatine in 1/2
cup cold water for 10 minutes,
add to hot mixture. When mix-
ture is cool and beginning to
set, add 1 cup grated cheese
and one-half pint of cream beat-
en stiff. Mix thoroughly. Put
in a mold and set in refriger-
ator until firm.
DRESSING
2 tbl chopped celery
2 tbl chopped green pepper
1/2 cup salad dressing.
This recipe will serve 10 to
12 people.

South Huron Hospital staff
were entertained to an Hawaiian
party last week by the Women's
Auxiliary and the theme was
carried out on the individual gay
desserts LemonMeringue
Blossoms. Here is the recipe
given us by Mrs. Ralph Bailey:
LEMON MERINGUE
BLOSSOMS
Add 1/8 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp
vinegar and 1/4 tsp vanilla to
3 egg whites and beat to a stiff
foam, Add 1 cup sugar gradually
and beat till very stiff.
Shape in mounds on a cookie
sheet covered with plain un-
greased paper. Make a well in
the centre and shape into nests
with a spoon.
Bake in a slow oven 275 de-
grees for 45 minutes and re-
move from paper immediately.
Just before serving fill with
lemon filling using the egg yolks
and place whipped cream and a
cherry on top. The filling may
be decorated with frozen straw-
berries if preferred.
This recipe makes from 12
to 14 shells.

ian theme with pineapple, man-
darin oranges and gay colored

HAWAIIAN SALAD
Mrs. R. W. Read made a
salad using apricots and or-
anges which seem to combine
with a pleasing flavor.
2 15-oz tins apricots, drained
and finely cut
20-oz crushed pineapple
drained
1 double size orange jello
2 cups boiling water
1 cup cold mixed juices from
fruit
3/4 cup miniature marshmal-
lows
Add boiling water to jello,
stir until dissolved and add the
cup of fruit juices. Allow to
partially set. Add fruits and
marshmallows. An angel cake
tin was used for a mold. When
chilled unmold and serve with
topping.

dale Jolly Sills was held Tues-
day evening, Feb. 18, at the
home of Mrs. John pym.
Beverley Passmore was sec-
retary and the roll call was
answered by 14 girls.
Covers for the record books
were de s igned. Huron home
economist, Miss Patricia Dam-
ude, was present at this meet-
ing.
Clothes to suit the occasion,
harmony, color, design, texture
and some trimmings for blouses
were discussed.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Robert
Down, Feb. 25.

tained friends and relatives at a
trousseau tea at the home of her
sister, Mrs. Melvin Gardiner,.
Exeter in honor of her daughter,
Margaret Jean, whose marriage
took place Saturday.

and Mrs. Fred Bischoff, Exeter,
sister of the groom, received the
guests at the door.
Mrs. Don McGeein, London,
and Mrs. Doug Hunter, Union-
dale, poured tea in the afternoon
and Mrs. Gardiner in the even-
ing. The tea table was covered
with a handmade lace tablecloth
centred with an arrangement of
snapdragons and candelabra.

TOPPING
1/2 cup white sugar
3 tbl flour
1 egg slightly beaten
1 cup juices from fruit
2 tbl butter
1 cup whipped whipping cream
Combine sugar and flour in
saucepan, add egg; gradually
stir in juices. Cook over low
heat until thickened stirring
constantly. Remove from heat
and add butter. Cool and fold
in whipped cream.
This topping may be used
as a custard dessert in itself
or over any fruit salad.
Sprinkle 3/4 cup grated
cheddar cheese over top of
salad. The amount of cheese
may vary according to indi-
vidual taste.

the public relations meeting of
McGillivray WI last Wednes-
day evening. He spoke on
"handwriting".
The motto "Coming together
is a beginning; working togeth-
er is progress" was given by
Mrs. Tom Kooy. Mrs. Joe Carey
contributed a reading and Mrs.
Wilfred Dixon chaired the pro-
gram.
A valentine exchange of gifts
was held and a draw for the
mystery prize donated by Mrs.
L. Allison was won by Mrs.
Kooy.
A nominating committee con-
sisting of Mrs. Dixon and Mrs.
Karl Pickering was named to
bring in a new slate of officers
at the April meeting.
The next meeting will be held
March 18 when the members
will entertain a visiting WI.
A penny sale will be held also.

length gown of nylon tulle styled
with sabrina neckline edged with
scallops of Alencon lace, long
lily point sleeves, bouffant skirt
and waistline trimmed with
lace. Garlands of tiny tulle
rosebuds and orange blossoms
formed her headdress and held
her shoulder-length veil of pure
silk French illusion. She car-
ried a cascade of red roses
and white carnations.

white accessories with pink
carnation corsage. The groom's

piece winter white suit With
black accessories and corsage
of red roses.
