Centralia troop
hikes to Arkona
BY WAYNE HELM
Troop Reporter •
Saturday ten Boy Scouts and
two leaders of the First Cen-
tralia Boy Scouts woke up early
to start on a hike to Arkona.
Troop Leader Jim ,Tohnson
was the leader of the group and
the patrol leaders took turns in
maintaining the pace that was
set by Scouter Joe Buhagiar.
The hike went well all the
way and the boys made over
seven miles through bush and
swamp in about four hours.
When they were about a half
mile from Arkona, the Scouts
were picked up and driven to
Rock Glen park where meals
had been prepared by the cooks
and eaten.
Troop Leader Jim Johnson
took the boys through a nature
trail and different trees were
pointed out. This was to help
the Scouts in their tree identi-
fication which is part of the
second and first class tests.
The Scouts and leaders en-
joyed themselves so much that
another hike is planned for this
coming Saturday.

BRODERICK BROS.
Exeter
Members of the Exeter Li-
brary Board were told last
Monday that they were not mak-
ing the best use of the facilities
available to them.
Miss Jean Munro, Toronto,
of the library extension service
of the department of education,
advocated making the basement
of the building into a children's
library for which it is "admir-
ably suited".
If this were done it would
necessitate remodelling the
front entrance to accommodate
an entry to the lower room since
the present entrance is not ade-
quate or safe.
Better lighting, swinging book
shelves and a brighter interior
were also suggested. With these
renovations an addition to the
library building could be post-
poned for five or six years, said
Miss Munro who was making
her official visit to the board.
At the annual meeting of the
board last Wednesday evening
initial steps were taken to make
a presentation to town council.
Circulation of books at the
library increased by 4,000 last
year according to the report
of Librarian Mrs. Hilton Laing.
Total book circulation for 1963
was 27,9'71 and the membership
was 781. There were 213 books
discarded.
The library belongs to the
Blue Water Film Federation
and has loaned 61 films in 1963
staff and Mrs. E. Mittleholtz of
the Precious Blood Separate
School were welcomed as new
members of the board.
Cecil. Wilson is chairman of
the board with Mrs. John
Schroeder, secretary-treasur-
er. Property committee is Mr.
Wilson, Roy Stover, Arthur Idle
and G. Wright; book committee,

DOES SHUR•GAIN TAKE THE
EXTRA TROUBLE TO MAKE
SELECTED-GRANULATED FERTILIZER
Because it's more effective. SHUR-GAIN Fertilizer is granulated
after the ingredients have been mixed and is not just a blend of
granular materials, As a result each granule contains all three
plant food elements in the right proportions.
Ordinary granular and blended fertilizers simply consist of a
mixture of ingredients, either in powder form or granules.
Although it's easier to make fertilizer that way it cannot be
as effective in use due to the separation of ingredients of
different size and weight.
As every granule contains all the guaranteed plant food
elements, SHUR-GAIN Selected-Granulated Fertilizer remains
completely balanced throughout storing, shipping and spreading
—resulting in balanced feeding of plants from every granule;
consistent, more even application of the best possible fertilizer
to give you maximum yields and top returns from your
fertilizer dollar.
As always it pays to get the finest fertilizer for your good
earth—SHUR-GAIN Selected-Granulated.
