UCW met at the home of
Mrs. Carmen Woodburn with
Mrs. Joe Homer and Mrs, Geo-
rge Dixon as program conven-
ers.
The topic on, prayer was tak-
en in two parts, the first "When
Shall We Pray?" was given by
Mrs. Horner and the second part
"How shall We Pray?", by
A. C. Reynolds.
Mrs. George Dixon presented
the study on Southern Asia. The
vital core was the chapter per-
taining to runways and road-
blocks to evangelism in Assam.
President Mrs. L. Curts con-
ducted the business. The lit-
erature secretary recommend-
ed a book for daily readings in
Lent.' The finance committee
brought in an estimated budget
and decided on a turkey supper
in October. The supply secre-
tary announced the allocation
for Northern Ontario.

Mrs. Hiram Thompson mark-
ed her 83rd birthday Monday by
being released from South Hur-
on Hospital, where she has spent
sever al weeks recuperating
from an attack of the 'flu.
Mrs. Thompson, the former
Elizabeth Hotson, received a
number of visitors during the
day at the hospital and in the
evening returned to the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Thomp-
son.
She is the last of her family
and, after her husband died
in 1961, she lived alone on the
farm until two years ago. Since
then she has lived with Mr.
and Mrs. Wilfred Dixon and Mr.
and Mrs. Thompson.
She is a member ofSt. Marys
Anglican Church, Brinsley, and
formerly was active in Christ
Church, McGillivray, before it
was closed. She also is a mem-
ber of Clandeboye WI.
DISAPPROVE CBC
Members of St. Peter's CWL
at their meeting at the home of
Mrs. R. Kipp last Wednesday
evening discussed CBC-TV
programs and came to the con-
clusion that they were unsuit-
able for family viewing.
President Mrs. Frank Van-
neste conducted the meeting
and, in the business, plans were
made for the forthcoming bingo
and bake sale.
A social time concluded the
meeting. Mrs. J. Glavin and
Mrs. J. Conlin were hostesses.
CHURCH NEWS
At St. James Church Sunday
the rector Rev. E. 0. Lancaster
conducted the service with Holy
Communion, and announced the
special speakers taking the ser-
vices during Lent at St. Pauls
Cathedral, London. One is a for-
mer member, the Most Rever-
end A. H. O'Neil, Archbishop of
Fredericton, Metropolitan of
Canada who will speak Monday
to Friday, March 9 to 13 at noon,
12:10-12:35.
The white mums placed in the
chancel were in loving memory
of Mr. Jack Whitmore Sr. by
his son Jack Whitmore Jr. and
family.
UNITED CHURCH
At the UC Rev. G. W. Sach
announced the flowers placed in
the church were in memory of
Mrs. Pearl Murdy who passed
away Monday Feb. 3 at St. Jo-
seph's Hospital. Temporary en-
tombment is in the mausoleum
with interment in St. James
cemetery later.
