Rodney where he has accepted
a three-point charge.
The WMS and L ad i es Aid
presented them with a gift. The
Arnold Circle gave them a gold-
toned magazine rack with an
address read by Mrs. Gordon
Schwalm and presentation by
Mrs. Ed Fink, and Mrs. R. A.
Orr.
The CGIT group, of which
Mrs. MacDonald was leader,
gave her a carved maple tower
clock sewing kit, Barb ar a
Schwalm, Rosemarie Neilands
and Ann Lawrence making the
presentations.
The congregation of Knox
Presbyterian Church, Hayfield,
gave them a Kenwood blanket
with H. H. Ormond making the
presentation on behalf of the
congregation. A reception fol-
lowed the Sunday afternoon ser-
vice.
The tourist went out West
and met a well-dressed and cul-
tured gentleman who turned out
to be an Indian. "But," pro-
tested the tourist, "I thought
all Indians wore feathers!"
"Oh, we do, Madam," re-
plied the gentletnan suavely,
"but this is the spring and we
are molting."
"Is that any way to thank
Harold for the lovely soap and
cologne set ?"
the smaller children sang; re-
citations, Larry and GarryGib-
son; and a solo, Muriel Glan-
ville accompanied by Barbara
Attfield. An interesting film was
shown by Rev. Hiltz. After an
exchange of gifts lunch was
enjoyed by all.
WELL KNOWN IN CREDITON
Hilliard Sparling, a Walker-
ton merchant for 44 years and
well known in Crediton,.died at
Bruce County Hospital where lie
was a patient for six weeks
following a cerebral thrombosis
at his home.
The deceased was born in
Cargill. He enlisted in the First
World War in the 160th Bruce
Infantry Battalion and served in
France. Following his return to
Canada he entered into partner-
ship in 1919 in the business
known as Arcott and Sparling. In
1930 he purchased the business
which he has conducted ever
sinAcem.ember of St. Paul's United
Church, he was also a member
of the Saugeen Masonic Lodge
and the Walkerton Legion. He
was an ardent member of the
Walkerton Lawn Bowling Club
for many years.
The late Mr. Sparling was
married in Crediton in 1923 to
Miss Buelah Smith, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. John
Smith.
Surviving besides his wife are
one son, Clare of Walkerton; one
brother Edward of Vancouver
and two grandchildren.
Masonic and Legion services
were held at the Tanner & Pear-
son funeral home from which the
funeral service was held con-
ducted by Rev. Eric Nelson of
St. Paul's Church with tempor-
ary entombment in Walkerton
cemetery chapel.
HUB YULE CONCERT
The children of EUB Sunday
School presented their annual
Christmas program in the
church auditorium on Sunday
evening December 22.
One of the largest audiences
in years enjoyed a varied pro-
gram of recitations, songs and
exercises.
A male quartette from Grand
Bend, comprising Ross Love,
Cecil Desjardine, WellwoodGill
and Les Greenwood with Doug-
las Gill at the piano provided
additional songs.
The program concluded with
a pageant "Love Shows The
Way" presented by several of
the junior classes.

The new leaders for the CGIT
group of Carmel Presbyterian
Church are Mrs. Ed Fink and
Mrs. Harry Hoy, (sisters), who
will take over January 8th at
the church. Mrs. Fink was as-
sistant leader with Mrs. Ross
MacDonald, who was leader of
the group, and who is moving
with her husband and family to
Rodney, where Rev. MacDonald
has been appointed to a 3 point
charge.
Mrs. Margaret Main, New
Westminster, B.C. is a guest
with her daughter and son-in-
law LAC and Mrs. Earl Titter-
ington, RCAF Centralia. Mrs.
Main, who flew East, expects to
return home in February.

brate his 91st birthday January
24.

has been a patient in South Huron
Hospital, was taken to the

CGIT presents
candle service
Sunday evening the CGIT of
Carmel Presbyterian Church
held their annual candlelight
service in the Sunday School
rooms of the church which was
well attended.
Mrs. Edgar Munn, the ac-
companist throughout the pro-
gram, opened with a piano pre-
lude followed by a well known
carol. To a processional hymn
the girls took their place on
the stage with a beautifully de-
corated setting.
The call to worship given by
leader Mrs. ROSS MacDonald
was followed by a selection by
the CGIT choir. The girls pre-
sented a skit entitled "The
Spirit of Christmas" t h e
three voices of Christmas —
and the carrying of His light to
the whole world, Ro Sem ar i e
Nielands, president, taking the
leading part, Others partici-
pating were Barbara Schwalm,
Matricia Moir, Anne LaWrenee,
Ann Funk, Faye Troyer and
Lois Wright.
Readers were Barbara
SchWalm and Ann Funk. The
offering to be Used at Carmel
Church to help the COLT in
their work was received and
dedicated by Mrs. MacDonald.
Mrs. MadDonald favored with a
solo, followed with a tengre-
gationai hymn.
An impressive service was
tarried out by the girls where
each member of all COIT groups
dedicated her life anew to serve
God for the coming year, This
was closed with.prayer by Mrs.
MacDonald. All were invited to
the fireside hour where lunch
was served by the CGIT.
