One of the major producers in this area is Harry Hayter, whose operation is located just west of Dashwood, He raises 20,000 to 30,000 turkeys, processes some in his own plant, sends ethers to processor-buyers. Above, left, Harry inspects a number of New York dressed birds ready for delivery. Young son Tommy, approaching six years old, proudly displays the more modern and more popular eviscerated turkey. Above, seven-year-old Janice obviously is pleased with the plumpness of the birds in the water tank, waiting to be processed. Left, Bill Meyer and Ron Keller de-feather the birds for processing. Another group of workers at the Hayter farm completes the plucking by hand after the machine has removed most of the feathers. --T-A photos krWsttAlkicqlciv.titte.cirt:5MM(4"oritoVtrogt.tctlitoilk oilf43:?`,4 Days may come and days may go, but Christmas Day has a special magic and wonder all its own. Caldwell's North End Yule more religious says church journal Peaceful as a snowy landscape, lively as a playful fawn is the Christmas we wish for you. We are ever grateful to you for your thoughtful consideration and gracious patronage. British Mortgage Exeter Advisory Board Christmas is becoming more religious, says the Rev. A. C. Forrest, editor of the United Church Observer, in the current issue of the church journal. Dr. Forrest writes: "If the present trend continues for an- other decade, United Churches will be packed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; Santa Claus will have retired to the depart- ment stores; concerts, plays and pageants will be for schools and TV; the delivering of bas- kets to the poor will be a mem- ory; the emphasis on giving will be for the needy far away. The "needy" at home will be the sick, the elderly, the lonely and the lost ) and the nice new neigh- bor next door, Increasingly they will be invited to adult parties at the church or in homes. And the childrenos parties, plays and pageants will be at school," The Observer editor con- family." stftiiINIMili*miziWR4•Wtzig.z?,tiom0,1,1•0.141-tFA'mtAIM4itivgkitoVigt,lz, Supertest Phone 235-2930 Exeter AIR,e-MrstW4Mt e-aF,ts -csi4a4147Almxi.mAttA•q.izr ilift;;Ktit;IttziiktomzVi Art Clarke Graham Arthur YOUR SHELL OIL DISTRIBUTOR tinues: "In country places the church still tends to be more the centre of community life and the place for parties and con- certs. The growth of the larger school areas tends to throw the small community parties back to the church. In the cities the parties tend to centre around home, office and other institu- tions, and the church is spe- cializing more in its religious services." Dr. Forrest observes: "There is more turning to sac- red music in United churches. "There is more recognition that Christmas is not just for children, but for adults, too. There is more emphasis on Christtnas E v e celebrations. Some even have their turkey the night before Christmas, so that Christmas Day may see more time for church and the PHONE 235-1820 MOTORS PHONE 285-1373 EXETER PETER RAYMOND BENSON W.
