James St. UCW presents Christmas pageant
A Christmas play was presented at James St. UCW wherein an orphan, Ruth, niece of Reuben and
Rachel, the innkeeper and his wife, and who always wore a shawl to cover a scar on her face, gave
it to the Christ-Child and immediately her scar disappeared. Playing the part of Ruth was Mrs.
Marjorie Dilkes (left); Joseph and Mary by Mrs. Ray Mills and Mrs. Bruce Shapton (centre) and
of Reuben and Rachel, Miss Lauretta Seigner and Mrs. Andrew Dixon (right). —T-A photo

cording to design. experts,
Most homes have candles and
inia to r e decorations which
they unearth annually and -then
carefully pack away at the end
of the season. Day bells,
wreaths and. ribbon ornaments
complete the feeling of Christ-
mas in the home.
Christmas cards are part of
the Christmas fantasy, and so
many of them adapt beautifully
to the glittering themes desired..
Many of this year's cards are
trimmed with glitter or feature
embossed designs which catch
and reflect the soft lights of the
tree. Try attaching your cards
to lengths of ribbon and hanging
the ribbon to door frames or
mantel pieces. Transparent
tape, straight pins or staples
can be used to attach the cards
to the ribbon. Tie a lovely bow
at the top of the ribbon as trim.
You'll find dusting much easier,
too, than if you allowed the
cards to stand free on the mantel
or other flat surfaces.
Cards shine the Christmas
warmth of your home to your
neighbours. Paste or tape par-
ticularly pretty cards to the
windows, design side out. Use

Winters in recent years have
been worse than they used to be,
according to Mr. and Mrs. Wil-

their golden wedding anniver-
sary Saturday.
"This year's is the worst
we've had before Christmas,"
says Mr. Effort!, "and I believe
last winter was the worst we've
had for blizzards and rough
weather."
They were married Dec. 25,

present", states the groom,)
in Wellborn, south ofSt.Marys,
and the weather was fine. The
groom's family drove to the
bride's home by "cab" without
any difficulty.
Mr. and Mrs. Wes Johns, who
recently celebrated their golden

Just before the Nov. 22 as-

a Look Magazine article about
Christmas in the White House.
She said:
"An ancient tale tells us of
the Christmas custom of burn-
ing a yule log in every fireplace
and of how, as the log was
drawn from the forest 'each
wayfarer raised his hat as it
passed, for he well knew it was
full of good promises, and that
it's flame would burn out old
wrongs'.
