Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bray, Robert, Janet and Ruth visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wil, liam Elford. Thames Road school concert will be held in the church base- ment Friday evening Dec. 20. The Messengers held a skat- ing party recently at the arena in Exeter, They all returned to the church where Mrs. Ed- win Miller showed pictures. Lunch was then served. The Messenger leaders are Mrs. Lee Webber and Mrs. Bev Mor- gan. Santa Claus arrived in Hen- sall last Saturday afternoon in the fire truck to welcome some 350 children of Hensall and dis- trict and their parents, to the annual Christmas party spon- sored by the Businessmen and liensall branch of the Cana- dianLegion 468, Gifts and treats were handed out to 350 children and 300 bottles of chocolate milk, the latter donated by Hurondale Dairy. Cartoons were shown in the town hallwith Bill Fuss in charge of the projector. Handing out the treats were Reeve Norman Jones, cl e rk Earl Campbell, Chief of police E. R. Davis and Rev. Ross Mac- Donald. Handing out the choco- late milk were the members of the Senior Citizens Euc h r e Club. Mrs. Alvin Well of WiliciPar and Mr, andIvIrs. Long, UCW ELECTS OFFICERS KIPPen UCW held their Christmas and annual meeting last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Howard Plant, the manse, in Brucefield with 28 in attendance. Mrs. Bert Faber was elected president for 1964 succeeding Mrs. Harold Jones who has held the office for two years. V i c e-presidents are Mrs. Emerson Kyle and Mrs. Lloyd Lovell; recording secretary, Mrs. Russell Consitt; corres- ponding secretary, Mrs. Tho- mas Reid; treasurer, Mrs.Edi-' son McLean. Mrs. Reid pre- sented the slate of officers. The worship period was taken by Mrs. William Consitt and Mrs. Ralph Turner. Christmas carols were sung accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Ross Broadfoot. A reading was given by Mrs. Lovell, a poem by Mrs. Jones and a duet by Misses Joan Sinclair and Elizabeth Smale accompanied by Mrs. John Sinclair, Assisting the hostess were Mrs. John Sinclair and Mrs. Winston 'Workman. CARMEL CHURCH The annual Christmas ser- vice will be held Sunday morn- ing at 11 am, Special music will be rendered by the senior and junior choirs, under direc- tion of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall. Rev. Ross MacDonald will de- liver a Christmas message; at 8:15 pm Sunday evening, the CGIT will hold a candlelight service in the church sanctuary, to be followed with an hour of fellowship in the church school rooms, The annual Sunday School concert was held Sunday evening with a good attendance despite the inclemency of the weather. Mr. Jim Dougall was chairman. The program embraced reci- tations, carols, numbers by the various classes of the Sunday School, and the presentation of a colored sound film "The Birth Of The Saviour." BABY BAND PARTY Thursday afternoon the Baby Band party in the church was held with the leaders Mrs, Reg Hodgert and Mrs. Lorne Pass- more in charge. Cliff Allen of Fullerton show- ed pictures which were in- teresting. Mrs, Reg Hodgert was in charge of the worship service assisted by Mrs. Wilson. There were eleven children who graduated from Baby Band to the Messengers. Mrs. Bev Morgan welcomed the new members to the Messengers as they passed through the gra- duating gates. Those whograduated, were Janet Bray, Jimmy Cottle, Bradley Johns, Carolyn Kellett, Mary Kernick, Brian Mayer, Dale Passmore, Elaine Stew- art, Robbie Stewart, Ronni e Stewart and Sandra Stewart. There were about 50 mothers and children present. SS CONCERT Victor Jeffery, superinten- dent of the Sunday School, was chairman for the concert that was held Friday evening in the church basement with a good crowd in attendance. The program consisted of dialogues, recitations and mu- sical numbers, Rev. Hugh Wil- son spoke a few words. Santa Claus arrived and gifts FREE Skating at Hensall Arena Kinette members pack CAS boxes The Christmas meeting of the Kinette Club of Hensall was held at the home of Mrs. Jack Drys- dale Wednesday night, Decem- ber 11. Mrs. Harold Bonthron and Mrs. Robert Reaburn at- tended as guests. Two boxes of children's clothing and toys were packed and will be sent to the Child- ren's Aid Society at Goderich. 'A short business session pre- ceded an evening of court whist • and prizes were won by Mrs. Reaburn and Mrs. Wm. Fuss. Mrs. Robert Caldwell won the raffle. The first meeting in January will be held at the home of Mrs. Jim Hyde when abake sale and white elephant sale will take place. By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS Mrs. Roger Urquhart and Mrs. William Urquhart conven- ed the Christmas program of Kirkton UCW held at the home of Mrs. Jack Urquhart Wednes- day afternoon, December 11, with 31 present. Mrs. Raymond Paynter read the Christmas story inter- spersed with carols. Mrs. Al- vin Crago gave a reading on religious Christmas customs, and other readings were given by Mrs. Herman Paynter and Mrs. Jack Urquhart. Mrs. R. Dykstra sang carols, Mrs. Fred Switzer played an instrumental and Mrs. Fred Lofft , St. Marys, favored with violin numbers. Mrs. Wes Neil gave a paper on "The Glorious Anniversary". Mrs. Crago con- vened the lunch. UNITED CHURCH The annual White Gift and Carol service of the Sunday Church School was held Sunday evening, Mr. Clendon Christie, superintendent of the Sunday School presided, assisted by Miss Lois Simmons and Paul Drysdale. The junior choir sang, and Miss Joyce Flynn rendered a solo. Miss Pam Taylor, and Miss Mary Mock, dressed as angels, lit the candelabra dur- ing the offering. Miss Greta Lammie presided at the organ consol. Mrs. James Taylor and Miss Lammie helped prepare the service. Two white poinsettias adding to the beauty of the lovely church decorations were the gift of the 1st Hensall Girl Guides, and Brownie Pack. Next Sunday morning at the Christmas service an appeal for overseas relief through the White Gift envelopes will be received. Christmas Eve, December 24, at '7 pm Holy Communion will be held. YPU Hensall and Chiselhurst YPU met Sunday eyeing in the church sanctuary for the devotional period holding the first part of the fellowship with the rest of the Sunday School and church congregation for White Gift Ser- vice. Afterwards a social hour was held with a recreation period under direction of Paul Drys- dale. Rev. H. Currie gave the benediction, and lunch was served. SQUARE DANCE Betty Cameron was the lucky winner of the door prize (a camera) at the Children's square dance jubilee held at RCAF Air Base Clinton, Fri- day evening last. Pam Taylor also won a gift in a spot dance. Twenty two square dancers from Hensall under direction of Robert Lambie, who was caller for the group, partici- pated. Square dancers were also present from Exeter and Clin- ton. Mr. and Mrs, Elmer Camp- bell of Toronto visited recently With Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Koeh- ler and family, Arlene Ohipchase, Linda Keys, Jane Pyette, Patricia Park, Clirissie Camera II e, members of the 1st Hensall Guides, and Karen Broderick of the Brownie Pack, Friday evening last made 18 visits to shut ins of the village sing- ing carols. The girls went out on their own. The liensall Kinettes enter, tained the Kinsmen and their families to a Christmas party in the Community centre •Sun- day afternoon, when a period of skating was enjoyed. Car- toons were shown, and Santa appeared and distributed gifts and treats, after which a smor- gasbord dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle and Bob attended the London Little Theatre Thursday even- ing. Catherine Ann Christie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clen- don Christie, underwent minor surgery at Clinton Public Hos- pital Monday of this week. Brian Talbot, 17 months son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Talbot, who has been apatient in Clin- ton Public Hospital, has re- turned home. Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle and Annattended the concert presented by the University Choir in Thames Hall, UWO Sunday evening. Bob is a mem- ber of the choir. Twelve Christmas boxes were packed Thursday after- noon at the home of Mrs. Earl Campbell for the shut ins of Carmel Church, Hensall. Sev- eral members of the WMS of the church, who sponsored the project, assisted Mrs. Camp- bell with the packing and de- livering. In the weekend comic section of the London Free Press of Saturday, December '7, on the page by Jimmy Hatlo, "They'll Do It Every Time" a cartoon appeared drawn by Wayne F. Ellwood, when he at tended school here. Wayne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ellwood, a for- mer CNR station agent here, took up residence some three years ago in Oshawa. George Smale, who has been a patient in Clinton Public Hos- pital where he underwent sur- gery, was removed to St. Jo- seph's Hospital, London, on Wednesday. Mrs. Dorothy Weido and son, Steven left Friday to take up residence in Ayr. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Peebles and family of London visited recently with Mr., and Mrs. Len Noakes and family. Misses Geraldine and Dor- THEME IS CHRISTMAS At the meeting of Hensall WI last Wednesday evening Mrs. Harold Currie gave a Christ- mas message and William Gib- son demonstrated arrange- ments of Christmas table cen- tres. In a draw for the latter Mrs. R. A. Orr and Mrs. Ches- ter Lee were winners. Roll call was answered with donations for the Children's Aid, Goderich, amounting to $23. Misses Jane Pyette and Joan Simmons contributed vocal duets. Mrs. Orville Jones led in carol singing with Miss Greta Lammie at the piano. The lucky plate during the re- freshment hour b elo nged to Mrs. Garfield Broderick. Program conveners were Mrs. R. M. Peck and Mrs. V. M. Pyette and hostesses were Mrs. Fred Beer and Mrs. Joe Ferguson. President Mrs. Be- verly Beaton presided for the business. There were 56 pre- sent. Guides aid playground WI entertains area children The 1st Hensall Girl Guides donated the proceeds from their Christmas tag project, which amounted to $40.00, to the Kins- men club of Hensall to be used for their playground project. The presentation was made by 1st class guide Lois Simmons at a dinner meeting of the Kins- men Club Thursday evening. Also attending were Cheryl Lit- tle, Jane Pyette, and Captain Mrs. Jim Hyde. During December and January Kippen East WI met at the home of president Mrs. W. J. F. Bell on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 11, with Mrs. Harry Cald- well of Hensall, co-hostess. This being the Christmas meeting the children of pre- school age were in attendance and entertained. Mrs. Ernie Whitehouse and Mrs. Robt. Bell were appointed leaders for the 4-H Club. Mem- bers answered the roll call with "A Symbol of Christmas." Mrs. Charles Eyre gave a splendid account of Christmas customs in other lands, and Mrs. Vern Alderdice gave a humorous monologue. A minute's silence was ob- served for the late President John F. Kennedy. Members exchanged gifts and the children were given treats. The hostess presented the gifts and a social hour was en- joyed and a buffet luncheon served. Grocery Specials On Friday afternoon the office staff of the Canadian Bureau of Credits presented Miss Parker with a toaster and a gift of money. Chiselhurst UCW chooses officers A Christmas message by Mrs. Harold Currie and a film on Hong Kong highlighted the program of Chiselhurst UCW last Tuesday afternoon. Other numbers included a ladies' quartet composed of Mrs. Alvin Cole, Mrs. Clarence Coleman, Mrs. Alfred Ross and Mrs. Tom Brintnell, Marilyn Brintnell gave a recitation, Mrs. R. Taylor, a reading, and Mrs. Cole, a missionary pray- er, Mrs. Percy Harris presided and Mrs. William Brintnell con- ducted the devotional. Prior to the meeting 13 Christmas boxes were packed for the shut-ins of the church. Mrs. Robert Boyce presented the slate of officers for 1964.
