THIS
The winter sports season at
Grand Bend will open this week-
end.
This week's snowfall will
provide good tobogganning at
least and if more snow arrives
then ski enthusiasts can count
practicing their sport, too.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony
will be held at the entrance to
the Walker's Ski Hills on High-
way 21, five miles south of
Grand Bend, Sunday afternoon
at 2 p.m. This will mark the
opening of the ground being used
by the Grand Bend Winter Sports
Club.
The club is new this year and
is made up of a group of young
businessmen in Grand Bend and
area. They have combined ef-
forts to make winter sports in
Grand Bend more interesting
and more easily available to
visitors.
Facilities of the club include
"Ski-doos", a motorized snow
scooter, available by the hour
for covering the two and one-
half miles of bush trails which
wind through the property.
President of the club, Stephen
Smith, reports that mobile tows
will be used to carry or tow
skiers and tobogganers.
Open house will be held with
tours of the grounds throughout
the afternoon and from two
o'clock on there will be re-
freshments served at the chalet.
No charge will be made for any
of the facilities on this first
day. Membership appli c a-
tion forms will be available.
After the opening day, entry to
the grounds will be by member-
ship only.
Other members of the club's
executive are Robert Borland,
vice-president; Douglas Shep-
herd, secretary; Thomas Ben-
nett, treasurer; general opera-
tions manager, Philip Walker,
and Richard Manore, Arnold
Truax, Bruce Thompson, Ralph
Dignan, Joe Green, Jack Wald-
ron, Orval Mellin, directors. '
