The double win put the H-Z crew in sole possession effirat place in the Shamrock 'junior loop, a full game ahead of the second place Strathroy Rockets, Ever been confused by the results of all- star selections in various sports? The choices made by the experts are some- times questioned by the fans. Last week's announcement of the All-Can, ado football club selected by the football writers leaves some question in our minds. Several weeks ago, Russ Jackson of Ottawa won double awards as the most outstanding foot- ball performer in the country. Where does Jack- son fihish in the battle for top quarterback in our pro ranks? Ottawa's fine signal caller re- ceived only nine votes from the same observers that chose him as the best a few weeks previous, Not taking anything away from the ties of Joe Kapp, B.C. Lions fine quarter who was given tap preference with 26 nods from the selectors, this seems quite a reversal in opinion in a short time. Ironically enough, Bernie Faloney of the Champion Tiger Cats, the fellow that proved with his Grey cup performance that he rates with the best appeared on only four of the ballots. DISCOURAGE $14AP SHOT A noble experiment is being tried in the Saskatchewan junior hockey league. An attempt is being made to cut down the use of the slap shot, Frank Boucher, commissioner of the west- ern province's junior ranks, a former great with the New York Rangers and seven consecutive times a Lady Byng Trophy winner is putting the new rule into effect this week. The use of the slap type of shooting will be limited to inside the opponent's blue line. Us- ing this method of firing the puck in any other area of the ice will result in a minor penalty to the guilty player. However, the penalty would be ignored if the offending team was already a man short.. In this case, play would be halted and a face-off called in the offending club's zone. This new idea may have some merit, but we can also think of a few drawbacks to the game. Boucher says that banishing of the slap shot will encourage youngsters to do more stick handling and passing to move the puck into enemy territory. This new move could tend to slow up the game with more whistles and give the referees more "discretion" calls to make. It would also involve the question of how far back the stick would have to come to constitute -a slap shot. This new rule will probably never be adopted, in the National hockey league. Few, if any big time pucksters rely solely on the slap- ping style of firing the rubber. Bell's rink undefeated Three Exeter minor hockey clubs opened home woAA play at the Exeter Arena Tuesday night with two wins and a tie against Goderich clubs. In the evening lid-lifter the Bantams downed their Huron County town opposition 4-0. A superlative five-goal effort by Bob Storie led the Midgets to a convincing 9-1 victory. Winding up the night's activi- ties, the juvenile clubs battled to a 4-4 draw. LOADER LEADS John Loader was the top goal contributor to theBantam cause, netting a pair. Barry Baynham notched the Ione first period score with help from Loader. Goal number two came early in the second as Jim Hayter after taking passes from Pete Lawson and Merle Idle found an open corner of the Goderich cage. Loader finished the scoring with his pair, one coming late in each of the second and third sessions. Baynham provided the passing assistance on the final counters. STORIE STARS Bob Storie, a holdover from last year's championship club, led the midget attack with a.five- goal spurt.
