Recently provided with cassocks and surplices, the group led the processional at the first service in December. They are under the direction of Mrs. Fred Broadley. McKellar and family. After New Years they will leave for Santa Clara, California, to spend the winter months with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leat- on Siemon and family. Two car loads of members from Amber Rebekah Lodge attended a banquet and meeting at Goderich Thursday night in honor of the official visit to Goderich Lodge by the Assem- bly President Mrs. M. Mac- Donald of Fort William, At the United Church Sunday evening December 15, 7:30 pm, in the church sanctuary, the annual White Gift Service of.the Church Sunday School will be held. This White Gift and carol service will provide an oppor- tunity for the presentation of White Gift envelopes of the Sunday School students and for the whole congregation to enjoy the fellowship of a joyous carol service together. The Explorers group of Car- mel Presbyterian Church had their initiations Thursday night in the Sunday School Hall when Mrs. Ross MacDonald presen- ted the children with their cer- tificates and red stars. A few games were played, after which the children served lunch to their parents and friends. Lead- er of the group is Mrs. Cathie Hopkins. Eighteen members of Hensall Kinsmen Club canvassed the village Thursday night and sold over 200 packages of peanuts in their peanut drive and were pleased with the response of the people when they called on them. This program and refresh- ment time is sponsored by the Christian Education Committee of the church. Mrs, Harold Cur- rie and Mrs. Blighton Ferg formed the reception commit- tee, Mrs. Ernie Chipchase presi- ded for the program assisted by Mrs. Wm. C. Smith. Tommy Youse gave the welcome. A chorus was sung by the kinder- garten, a solo by Betty Ann Beer and a four part recitation by Gail Jinks, Tracey McKer- cher, Betty Ann Beer and Jamie Caldwell. Mrs. Blighton Ferg, Baby Band secretary, was presented with a potted plant by Betty Beer on behalf of the nursery. Mrs. Currie gave courtesy re- marks. Games were played and lunch served by Mrs. Ross Forrest, Mrs. Vern Alderdice and their committee. The children were presented with fdvors. HOLD PARTY Members of Amber Rebekah Lodge held their Christmas party last Wednesday evening following a brief business ses- sion conducted by Noble Grand Mrs. Clarence Volland, Readings wdre given by Mrs. Alex McBeath and Miss M. Ellis and piano solos by Mrs. William Fuss. Members exchanged gifts and lunch was served. Their first meeting in Janu- ary scheduled for January 1 was changed to January 8. A donation was voted for the Oddfellows home at Barrie. LEGION PARTY The Legion Hall was the set- ting Sunday afternoon for the Legion and Auxiliary annual Christmas party. Entertainment was provided by films with Jack Drysdale in charge of the projector. Santa was a special guest and handed out 132 gifts and bags of candy to the children. Carol singing was enjoyed and lunch served. In charge of the arrangements were Mrs. Wm. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn E. Bell and Mervyn attended the wed- ding of their son, Earl Bell and Miss Sharon Stewart in Toronto Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bell and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Bell spent the weekend in Toronto attending the wedding of their brother, Earl, and Miss Sharon Stewart Saturday. Jinks, well known resident of Hensall for over fifty years, died in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Sunday even- ing, December 8, following a lingering illness. In his 85th year he was born in Chatham. He was a member of Hensall United Church, member of the IOOF Hensall Lodge 223, and for over 40 years was mail courier for RR 1 Hensall. Surviving are his wife, the former Bertha Blatchford, one son Manley of Hensall, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Public funeral services were held Wednesday, December 11 from the Bonthron F un eral Home conducted by Rev. Harold Currie, who paid fitting tribute to the life of the deceased. Bur- ial was in Hensall Union ceme- tery. OFFICERS RETURNED Mrs. James McAllister pre- sided for the Christmas meeting of UCW unit 4 Thursday after- noon. She reviewed the study from the book "From Brahma to Christ." Mrs. McAllister led in the devotional assisted by Mrs. Hugh McMtrrtrie, Mrs. Sim Roobol and Mrs. George Arm- strong. The executive were returned to office for another year with Mrs. McAllister as leader, and assistant, Mrs. Armstrongd Secretary Is Mrs. Its M. Peck and treasurer, Mrs. W. B. Cross and Mrs. N. E.
