UCW UNIT 4
Mrs. Ken Ottewell discussed
the "means of grace" in Pro-
testant churches at the UCW
unit 4 meeting in James St. UC
Monday evening. She dealt with
the sacraments of baptism and
the Lord's Supper and worship.
Discussion followed.
The devotional with thanks-
giving theme was taken by Mrs.
Ken Hern, Mrs. H. L. Snider,
Mrs. R. D. Jermyn, Mrs. Elmer
Willis and Mrs. Charles Atthill.
Mrs. Bev Skinner and Mrs, Don
Roth sang a duet. Mrs. Skinner
is leader of the unit.
Mr. and Mrs, A. J. Switzer
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
George Jaques of Tavistock.

A parade of Guides and Brow-
nies of other days and other
lands was presented with Miss
Joan Dettmer as commentator.
She told of the origin of the
Guide movement and Paula
Barrett displayed the type of
uniform worn at that time. Ka-
ren McCarter paraded the uni-
forni of the 1920's and Paulette
Schroeder, today's costume. A
new uniform for both Guides and
Brownies will be issued this
coming March, a diagram of
which made by Claudia Barrett,
was shown by Roberta Grassick.
Ruth Whiting modelled atypical
camp uniform while Lana Keller
wore the outfit of the Air Ran-
gers and Heather Sturrock was
in the Brownie dress.
Marion Hern modelled the
uniform of the Guides of Rho:-
desia; Judith Walters, the Pa-
kistanian Girl Guide, Janice
Loader, the Nigerian outfit,
Helen Jory, the French Girl
Guide, Claudia Barrett, the Ar-
gentina dress, Mary Southcott,
the Japanese andSusan Wooden,
the Lebanese Brownie. Roberta
Barrett displayed the dress of
the Brownies or Sunbeams of
South Africa.

missioner, Goderich, as she
presented gold cords to Shirley
Genttner and Carolynne Sim-
mons at the mother and daughter
banquet for Rangers, Guides and
Brownies in the Legion Hall last
Wednesday evening.
"The Gold Cord, the highest
award in Guiding, means a great
deal of work--each girl had to
earn 25 badges prior to her 17th
birthday which means hours and
hours of work" said Miss Mc-
Millan. She also presented gol-
den hands to Kathy McDonald,
Jane Turkey, Brenda Brintnell,
Michelle Harrison, Cathy Cann,
Miriam Hiltz andPennySchroe-
der.
Second Class badge was pre-
sented to Paulette Schroeder by
Mrs. B. D, Sturrock, captain of
the Exeter Company.
Mrs. W. D. Huntley, district
commissioner and chairman for
the program, presented golden
bars to Kathy Wells, Kathy
Holtzman, H eath e r Sturrock,
Brenda Brintnell, Penny Mc-
Donald, Leona Ohre and Ruth
Snider. Mrs. Huntley, who has
been district commissioner for
three years, is being succeeded
by Miss Elizabeth McTavish of
the liSDHS staff. Brown Owl
