Dowson last of her family By MRS. NORMAN LONG KIPPEN Mrs. Clara Dowson, 83, wi- dow of the late John Elston Dowson, died in St. Joeeph's Hospital, Sarnia on Fridaea 0o -tober 18. She had been a patient of this hospital for the past three months due to a frac- tured hip, She was the youngest daugh- ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of Kippen and was the last surviving mem- ber of a family of 10. She leaves to mourn her loss one adopted daughter (Mildred) Mrs. Eldin Kerr of Seaforth, nieces and nephews, and a host Of friends. She was a faithful member of St. Andrew's United Church, Kippen for many years, Services were conducted Monday at 3 pm from the Bon- thron Funeral Home, Hensall with Rev. D. A. MacMillan, a former minister officiating.In- terment was in Hayfield ceme- tery. Schlen- ker used as his theme "Wanted — Christian Men". 4-H GIRLS HOST WI At the meeting of the Cree dition WI held in the Com- munity Hall last Wednesday the 4-H girls were hostesses for the evening. The motto "Why Do Girls Participate in 4-li" was given by Karen Finkbeiner after which Ruth Hodge favoured with a piano solo. A discussion on Why I Like Being a 4-H'er was taken by Ruth Ann King and Ruth Hodge. The 4-H girls then modelled the dusters which they had made. Mrs. Bruce Shapton demonstrated her Tup- perware. During the business section a letter was read about the adopted child. It was decided that Mrs. E. Neil would be the delegate" at the WI Con- vention to be held in London on Nov. 4 and 5. It was also voted not to raise the member- ship fee but that It would re- main at 50 cents. Mrs. M. King is to make knitted slippers which are to be sold at the National Con- vention held in Nova Scotia this year. Plans were also made to hold a Senior Citizens din- ner again this year. Lunch was served by the 4-H girls. By MISS MURIEL HERN BAKING WITH MILK The seventh meeting of Elim- ville 1 4-H club was held at the home of Mrs. Norman Jaques on Oct. 14 with 13 members pre- sent. The meeting was conduc- ted by the president. Notes were given on baking with milk. Cooking demonstra- tions from the member's pam- phlet were given by all members and the results were tasted for lunch. DASHWOOD MERRY MAIDS The 6th meeting of Dashwood 4-H girls was held October 16 with 12 girls and the leaders, Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Rudolph Miller present. Notes were given on milk desserts, garnishes, and top- pings for puddings, and blanc mange. The girls made lemon chiffon and tasted creamy blanc mange. The '7th meeting was held October 21. Notes were given on pancakes and baking with milk. After covering their books for achievement day the girls made pancakes. with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Payne of London. The staff and employees of the New Venice Farm attended a farm demonstration at Kit- chener last Thursday. Miss Teresa Murphy of Osh- awa visited Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burley and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wilson of Sarnia visited Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hole and Jean Marie and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Frost of St. Cath- arines visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burley and family Sunday. Mr. Kermit Burley of Sarnia and Mr. and Mrs. Andy Levine of Chatham visited relatives over the weekend. Mr. Bruce Romphf is in the doctor's care. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Melville and family have returned from a three week's trip to the west and B.C. coast and report very good crops. Fires in the Klondyke can be seen for several miles since mid-summer, occasionally, especially that on the south side of the clearance of Lake Smith on the Baig Farm, felling what remains of standing bush, with a south wind.
