By MISS LINA ABBOTT The official opening of the $210,000 Biddulph Township Area No. I School was held Friday night, The large audi- torium was filled to capacity and some 50 or more late-corners had to find seating on chairs and benches in the hall. R. R. Crozier, chairman of the school board, was MC for the evening and Robert Packer, UWO professor of geography, was the guest speaker. He was introduced by trustee Tom Ga- gan and thanked by Orville Langford, vice-chairman. With a keen sense of humour, Mr. Packer held the interest of the large audience as he spoke on the latest trends in education, stressing the point that formal education was not the only means of education. He said there were three reasons most people felt education was re- quired—job training, social ad- justment and living for oneself. He congratulated theboard on the splendid new school and urged that the board, the rate payers and teachers make the best possible use of the building as an educational centre. Bringing greetings to the au- dience were Agricultural Minister Hon. W. A. Stewart MPP, Hon. W. H. A. Thomas MP and Harold L Wallis, reeve of Biddulph Township. Also taking part on the pro- gram were Rev. W. J< Maines, who gave the invocation, dedica- tion and benediction, Principal Fred Berdan who introduced the school staff and Inspector H. G. Schlotzhauer. Mr. Crozier in- troduced the school nurse, Miss Margaret Smith and Mrs. Har- dy, the caretaker and bus con- tractor. Mrs. Clarence Hardy, music teacher presented three choir numbers. The children were accompanied byMrs. G. W. Sach and did exceptionally well. In the key-ceremony presen- tation, Dave Lansdowne, con- tractor, presented the school key to Howard Fulls, architect, who, in turn, presented it to chairman R, R. Crozier. Mrs. M. Bowman on behalf of the staff presented abible to the school. The staff was also res- ponsible for the beautiful floral decorations, Following the program, re- freshments were served y the wives of the school board, after which a tour of the school was made.
