Plan open house next weal
at modern dairy operation
Official results in Huron
One of the district's most
medern dairy operations will be
on display to area farmers next
Thursday.
Ontario Hydro is sponsoring
an open house at the farm of
Ralph Weber, near Dashwood,
to demonstrate how one pro-
gressive operator i'farms bet-
ter electrically".
Open house features will be
the new four-stall milking par-
for and milk house attached to
the front of the Weber barn, as.
Well as a modern free choice
housing barn erected this fall.
The operation will be on dis-
play from 2 to 10 p.m. with hydro
and manufacturer consultants
available to provide explana-
tions and advice.
The hygienic milking opera-
tion features a low-vacuum
pipeline system with a 3,000-
pound bulk cooling tank, auto-
matic washup and easy measur-
ing of the individual cow's output
for record purposes.
The 14' x 40' milk parlor has
four side-opening stalls into
which cows enter from the barn
side. They are given supple-
mentary rations during the
milking period.
The 15' x 20' milkhouse is
separated from the parlor by a
corridor. It contains the cooling
tank and washing equipment,
including a hot water tank.
Both milking and heating sys-
tems are electrical.
The entire operation can be
handled by one man, The We-
bers' 50-cow herd is milked in
about 1 1/2 hours.
A feature of the milking sys-
tem is the "roll-o-measure"
receptacles by which each cow's
production can be weighed with-
out exposing the milk to air or
handling. Cleared for each ani-
mal, the round glass globe at
each stall contains a gauge
which indicates quantity.
The free choice housing unit
is one of the first of its kind in
Ontario. It features 100 loose
stalls in a 100' x 26' structure.
A 10' cement alleyway is pro-
vided for quick cleanout by a
tractor loader.
The Weber farm is located
just south of No. 83 highway,
1 1/2 miles east of Dashwood.

You don't have to be a farmer to recognize the
excellent job electricity is doing in Mr. Weber's
new four-stall milking parlour and milk room.
From the pipeline milking, with its 3,000 lb.
bulk cooling tank, to the latest in free choice
housing barns . . . . there's plenty to make a
visit to Mr. Weber's farm well worth-while.

The way we jump over the moon hasn't changed
a bit for us Bossies. The way we make our
most important contribution to society has
changed. So much, in fact, that they are hold-

just to show you how ingenious and hygienic
modern milking has become.
