Anthem by the choir
Today the Church offers a
Welcome and a Sacrament as

stone Sept. 17 at the home of
their daughter and son-in-law,
S/L and Mrs. John L. (Gwen)
Andrew.
The jetliner trip home gave
them an added anniversary gift.
"I've never seen anything so
pretty as the trees in Ontario
from the air," said Mr. Hicks.
"The province looked like abed
of green and red flowers."
The celebration in Edmonton
was highlighted by a family
dinner attended by Mrs. Hicks'
cousin, Mrs. Charles Stewart,
Calgary, who provided the mu-
sic at the couple's wedding 50
years ago in Blyth.
Mr. and Mrs. Hicks were
married in the home of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mar-
shall, the bride's parents, at
Blyth. Mrs. Hicks met her hus-
band-to-be after being appoint-
ed teacher at the Centralia
school.
For their honeymoon, they
took a train trip to Detroit,
Buffalo and Niagara Falls, an
extensive tour in those days.
Mr. Hicks was born on the
No. 1 farm in Stephen town-
ship Lot 1, concession 1 —
which now has been in the fa-
mily for five generations. It's
now operated by the couple's
son, Frank.
For 28 years, Mr. Hicks
was secretary-manager of the
Centralia Farmers' Co-op. He
turned over his farm to his son
19 years ago and retired in
1948 from his position with the
co-op. It was at that time that the
co-op owners sold the business
to William Elliot, who now op-
erates it under the name of
Centralia Farmers' Supply.
Mr. Hicks also served as a
school trustee for a number of
years.
Mrs. Hicks has been an ac-
tive member of the WMS of
Centralia United Church and
was interested in Red Cross
work during the war - years.
The couple, both in good
health, have been receiving the
well wishes of district friends
since their return this week.
