churchyard.
The service in the church was
well attended with the guest
speaker the Rev. Kenneth Hick
pastor of the Mips. Craig and
Brinsley United Churches,
'Handicaps .of life,are a chal-
lenge to the relatives and
friends pf the Pioneers, Many
have been absent for years,
for others there are more re-
cent graves, In the 123-year,
old cemetery. The need for us
is to seize every opportunity
for Christian service as we
live in this age of automation"
said the speaker,
A special lesson was read by
the Rev. G. W. Sach pastor of
the Lucan and Clandeboye Uni-
ted churches. The rector the
Rev. E. 0. Lancaster, thanked
the ministers and appreciated
the Clandeboye United Church
for their withdrawal of their
service in favor of the me-
morial service at $t. James,
also the guest soloist, Kenneth
Hardy of Lucan, the organist
Mrs. J. H. Paton, andthe mem-
bers of the choir of Holy Trinity
Church, Lucan, who assisted.
Memorial flowers were given
by Victoria Lodge, LOBA 387
Lucan, the Clandeboye WI and
Mr, and Mrs. Mervin Carter
in memory of Mr. and Mrs.
Eli Carter.
The cemetery superintendent

The 4-H girls and their lead-
ers were guests at the Agri-
culture and Canadian Industries
meeting of Staffa WI held at the
home of Mrs. Russell Worden
on Tuesday evening, August 27,
with 20 members and 16 visitors
present, Mrs. Gerald Agar pre-
sided.
The girls gave a skit on"The
Milky Way".
Mrs. Carter Kerslake on be-
half of the WI presented the two
provincial honor winners, Kay
Worden and Mary Ellen Doyle,
each with Institute cups and
saucers. Kay Worden displayed
her accessories she had-com-
pleted for the 4-H club "Cotton
Accessories For The Club Girls
Bedroom" and commented on
her display.
The leaders for the next 4-H
club are Mrs. Gordon Parsons
and Mrs. John Wallace with
Mrs. George Vivian and Miss
Mary Ellen Doyle as assistants.
Guest speaker for the evening
was Miss Olive Bell, past presi-
dent of Perth County Junior
Farmers. She was one of four
chosen this year for the highest
Junior Farmers award, a 10
weeks expense -free trip to
Great Britain. Miss Bell has
just recently returned from
Britain and told the highlights
of her trip and also showed
pictures.
Miss Olive Speare gave a
paper on the motto "Agricul-
ture is the life line of the Na-
tion". Everyone received a to-
pic on agriculture as they ar-
rived and to answer the roll call
had to give an impromptu speech
on their topic. This proved in-
teresting.
Elizabeth Smale favored with
a solo. Mrs. Gerald Agar gave
a demonstration on the making
of fancy cushions.
Mrs. Russell Worden gave
courtesy remarks and presen-
ted Miss Bell with a gift.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Duncan,
Exeter, visited Friday with Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Miller and Mr.
and Mrs. John Templernan and
families.
Darlene Templeman holi-
dayed last week With Gail Agar.
Rev. and Mrs. Bert Daynard,
Heather and Eleanor Kemp re-
turned home Friday from their
trip north and west,
Eric Norris, Guelph spent the
holiday weekend at his home
here.
David Kemp has returned
home from his holiday in the
western provinces.
Misses Carol Vivian and Joan
Annis Zion spent the weekend
with Joanne and Fay Temple-
man.
Mrs. Mary Templeman has
returned home from Scott Me-
morial Hospital, Seaforth, and
is spending some time with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr,
and Mrs. Alvin Cole and family,

visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John
