HIKERS' 95 STAGE-EYE VIEW OF THE HUGE CROWD WHICH ENJOYED THE 19TH ANNUAL KIRKTON GARDEN PARTY LAST WEEK

But the stars of the show, be-
yond a doubt, were the hometown
entertainers -- Paul Bros. and
Shirley-who kept the crowd of
4,000 laughing and clapping for
15 minutes.
The Pauls introduced three
new numbers at this year's
party and they were instant
hits. As their fans know, the
boys make up the lyrics them-
selves using current topics,
throwing in slapstick and jokes
for extra laughs and donning
special costumes for hilarious
effects.
Some of the old favorites were
there, like the one-man band,
And there were new acts--sing-
ers, magicians, dancers, all
providing the sparkling profes-
sional entertainment for which
Kirkton Garden Party is fa-
mous.

The first of the new ones was
a jockey number (with fly swat-
ters for whips), in which the
boys poked some fun at them-
selves as veteran track-goers.
The second was a take-off on
the current TV medical stars--
Dr. Kildare and Dr. Casey--and
the brothers wound up with a
number in girls' Charleston
outfits.
The crowd hung on every word
because they didn't want to miss
the punch lines.
This was the 19th annual
Kirkton Garden Party and the
weather again smiled as it has
almost every year. Few outdoor
events have such a record for
clear skies.
Larry Ament, Gowanstown,
whom adjudicator Crawford
Douglas of CKNX Wingham,
called "a born entertainer",
won first prize for his comedy
song in the juvenile contest.
Three-step dancing brothers,
all Hendersons of Seaforth, won
second place and the third prize
went to Wayne Love, Thedford,
for his piano solo "Gigue".
Other prizewinners were
pianist Joan Dykes, Granton,
and singer Mike Culbert, Lucan.
"I could have picked another
five winners and another five
after that," said Douglas, who
praised all the contestants.
Other area performers in-
cluded pianist Margaret Mc-
Carroll, RCAF Centralia; Jim
and George Gagan, Granton, who
played a piano duet; Ruth Hodge
and Charmaine Schenk, Credi-
ton, who also played a duet.
Preceding the amateur show,
the St. Marys all-stars defeated
a team from St. Paula, 10-'7, in
an exhibition softball tilt,
The Paul brothers handled
all three phases of the program
--Lee was MC, for the profes-
sional show; Gerald announced
the juvenile contest and Reg,
who is not in the family act,
managed the ball game.

As good as a prize for these two amateur entertainers was a congratulatory hug from one of the
professional stars of theKirkton show, Kathie McBain, of Toronto. The boys are Mike Culbert, left,
Lucan, who won fifth prize, and Larry Ament, Gowanstown, the winner of the juvenile contest.
