vered with seed pearls held a
short illusion veil and she car-
ried a bouquet of white and

Smillie reunion
The Lions Park, Seaforth,
proved an ideal setting Sunday,
July ?m for the annual Smillie
reunion when officers were re-
elected for the second year.
Honorary president is Dr. Jen-
nie Smillie Robertson, Toronto;
president, Harold Elder, Hen-
sail; vice-president, Mrs. Dor-
othy Eatwell, Simcoe, secre-
tary-treasurer, Miss Norm a
Geiger, Zurich; business com-
mittee, Dr. A. G. Smillie, Nia-
gara Falls; Jack Elder, Oshawa.
The young people spent the
afternoon swimming and then
enjoyed a series of games and
contests conducted by Dianne
and Donna Peck.
Clan members were present
from many locations in Canada
as well as from the USA. Among
those coming from a distance
were Dr. and Mrs. James Tapp,
N. Carolina; Mr. and Mrs. Ro-
bert Brown, Chicago; Beatrice
Lorenzen, Detroit, Mich; Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Howe, Arizona;
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Smillie
of Florida and St. Catharines.
Considerable time was spent
by members examining the fa-
mily tree which had recently
been completed by the clan
historian Lorne Elder of Hamil-
ton. The chart is 21 ft long and
contains almost 1,000 names.
Almost complete records of the
clan are available dating from
1760.
Next year the picnic will be
held at the same location and
time of year.

urday, June 29, for the wed-
ding of Patricia Ruth Carter and
Herbert Russell Hoffmeyer.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Ruth E. Carter, the for-
mer Ruth Hedden, Hensall, and
the late Harold Whitney Carter,
Clinton, and the groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy
Hoffineyer, RR 3 Mitchell. Rev.
A. M. Hunter officiated at the
double ring ceremony.
Given in marriage by her
uncle/ Harold Hedden of Dres-
den, the bride chose a full
length gown of Chantilly lace
over taffeta, fashioned with
scoop neckline, long lily point
sleeves and controlled skirt,
sweeping to tiered lace back ful-
lness. A crown of pearlized
orange blossoms held an over-
the-face illusion veil, and she
carried a bouquet of red roses,
white carnations and mums.
Bridal attendants, Miss Nor-
ma Lee, Clinton as maid of
honor, and Miss Rosemary Car-
ter, Clinton, sister of the bride
as bridesmaids, were gowned
identically in light blue organza
over taffeta with lace bolero,
and carried nosegays of white

carnations and mums. White ny-
lon dresses with rows of lace
on the tops were worn by the
flower girls Miss Ina Hedden,
and Miss LyndaHoffmeyer. Da-
vid Hoffmeyer was ringbearer

were Oliver Hoffmeyer of Mit-
chell, and Dave Carter, Clinton.
For the reception held at the
home of the groom's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Hoffmeyer, the
bride's mother received wear-
ing a dress of navy blue and
white with a corsage of yellow
mums. The groom's mother
chose a gown of royal blue with
which she wore a corsage of
white mums.
For travelling to the east
coast the bride donned a two
piece yellow linen dress with
embroidered jacket, white ac-
cessories and corsage of white
mums.
The couple will reside in
Clinton.
Guests attended from Cleve-
land, Ohio, Detroit, Mich., St.
Catharines, Niagara Falls,
Hensall, Stratford, Clint o n,
Goderich, Mitchell and Kippen.
The bride is a niece of Mr.

bol enjoyed a 15 minute plane

her first time in a plane which
she said was wonderful.

6, at 2 o'clock when Marjorie
Ilene Pfaff, daughter of Mrs.
Pfaff and the late Nelson Pfaff,

John Douglas Gibbings, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Gibbings,
Clinton, with Rev. A. H. Johns-
ton officiating.
The bride wore a waltz-length
all-over Chantilly lace gown
styled with full, tiered skirt
topped by a basque waist. Tiny
iridescent sequins trimmed the
