Training of 'U' students Tony Ducharme
in full swing at Centralia TAKE LIFE EASY The summer reserve of-
ficers' training program at
RCAF Station Centralia is in full
swing.
About 340 students from 38
Canadian universities, includ-
ing 11 women, are taking basic
training on the station. Most
of them arrived. May 20.
The school, a separate unit
from the regular training pro-
gram at Centralia, has some
65 instructors including a num-
ber from Canadian universities.
Commanding officer is W/C
K. B. Handley.
The school involves two
training program s--the regular
officer training plan (ROTP)
and the university reserve
training plan (URTP). Under
the former the RCAF subsidizes
their university education and
they receive permanent com-
missions upon graduation. The
URTP is designed for students
who have an interest in the
RCAF but do not wish to com-
mit themselves to a service
career.
The six-week course at Cen-
tralia gives them basic training
in their responsibilities as of-
ficers of the RCAF, Upon gra-
duation, set for Thursday, June
27, they will be transferred to
other course or on-the-job

Choristers' 75; (Intended for last week)
Young voices of the T - A
Choristers matched enthusiasm
with an audience of about 125
at their first sponsored con-
cert Friday night, at Exeter
Legion Hall.
The girls, from a number of
centres in South Huron, sang in
great variety from folk songs
to musical-comedy favorites,
sometimes in unison, some-
times in two parts and some-
times even in two keys. Their
efforts were rewarded with a
lively ovation.
The program, "Spring Fes-
tival of Songs", was in six
groups. After a very bright Hi
Neighbor and It's a Grand Night
for Singing, came Look For a
Silver Lining.
The next trio of songs was
begun by Susan Goman who
sang, well within her range,
When Love is Kind. The chorus
continued with two oldfavorites
They Didn't Believe Me and
Make Believe. A religious group
came next, featuring a solo by
Mary Ann Hayter, Let There be
Peace.
Four folk songs followed in-
termission. The audience was
invited to participate in rhythm-
clapping with the chorus for
Take Me Along and Study War
No More. 01' Man River, sung
in part by the chorus gave a
baritone vehicle for director
Ronald Heimrich and Sheryl
Stade sang Mighty Lak A Rose.
The next trio of Tip Toe Thrie
the Tulips, If I Loved You and
Love is a Many-Splendored
Thing was followed by a solo by
Ann Marie Kraft, Young Levers.

training at various stations
across Canada.
At Centralia, the students,
day is divided into eight train-
ing periods: three for drill and
physical education, and five for
academic subjects. Subjects in-
clude RCAF history and or-
ganization, leadership, nuclear
defence, RCAF law, effective
speaking, service writing,
world affairs.
The cadets are divided into
flights of about 30 men, each
flight being planned to provide
representation for each pro-
vince of the country. The stu-
dents themselves serve in po-
sitions of command in the flight,
cadet organization. Flight com-
manders are graduates of ser-
vice colleges. Other offices in-
clude cadet wing commander,
wing adjutant, wing warrant of-
ficer, squadron warrant of-
ficer.
During the winter program of
the plans, which covers the aca-
demic year at universities,
training consists of attendance
at weekly parades with study of
a syllabus prepared for the use
of university squadrons. Each
squadron is commanded by a
primary reserve officer, a fa-
culty member of the university
concerned. He is assisted by
other faculty members who are
reserve officers and a resident
staff officer of the r e gul a r
force.
concert
Two more Broadway favorites,
Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'
and Oklahoma, brought the con-
cert to a close.
Mr. Heimrich and Mrs. Lorne
Kleinstiver, accompanist, were
presented with gifts from cho-
rus members. Mr. Heimrich
said he was rewarded by the
co-operation of members of
the group and that he hoped the
chorus would grow to make
necessary an addition on the
Legion Hall.
The chorus was formed in
October 1962 and has 21 mem-
bers ranging in age from 12
to 16. Members wore new scar-
let blazers and grey, pleated
skirts, which they have adopted
as their official dress.
