minor teams
Two teams Of local bowlers
were successful in winning tro-
phies in the finals of the Lake
Huron Zone Recreation Five Pin
Bowling championships .at Lis-
towel Saturday.
Both girls' and boys' teams
in the 14-and-.under Innis) r
classes came hOme with a-
wards.
The five member girls' squad
rolled a three-game total of
2674 to, easily outclass all other
opposition.
Also in the boys section, the
locals had little trouble walking
off with the top prize with a team
total of 2682.
In addition to team awards,
three trophies came to Exeter
for individual efforts.
Darlene Snell led the junior
girls division with a 619 triple
and Sue Ann Lindenfield was
tops in the single game depart-
ment rolling a nifty 249.
Hank Gosar led both depart-
ments for junior boys scramb-
ling the pins for a 314 single
and a lofty '744 three game ef-
fort.
Since one bowler can only
claim one trophy, Hank brought
home the high triple prize and a
Goderich youngster next in line
was awarded the single laurels.
The senior boys' team lost its
division to Walkerton by a mere
42 points.
Junior Girls DarleneSnell,
619; Sue Ann Lindenfield, 581;
Barbara Skinner, 502; Penny
Preszcator, 489 and Phyllis
Madge 483.

defender, picked up his own
rebound and flipped the puck
home.
HATTER STARS
Scoring leader of the morning
contest, Jim Hayter came back
to lead the attack again, gaining
credit for, a bat-trick in the
final 0-2 victory,
The Seaforth boys came out
with lots of fire and held con-
trol of the play for the first
two minutes until the locals get
rid of some of their tension.
Hayter slamtued in the first
goal at 2,40 in a wild scramble
around the Seaforth net as Barry
Baynham and Bill Fairbairn
helped keep up the pressure,
Goal number two came a few
moments later as the result of
some fast thinking,
Graham Bern, retrieving the
rubber behind the opposition
nets, saw the goalie at the far
corner and quickly brought the
puck around in front and into
an open corner.
This Sahirday, four teams
will journey to Sarnia to par-
ticipate in a south western coun-
ties tournament. Also on May
11, a mixed team is slated to
participate in a tournament at.
Kitchener,
By the way, energetic Ruth
Durand, who spearheads the
bowling program, reminds us
that the Exeter Minor Bowling
League banquet is scheduled for
next Monday (April 29) at 6:00
pm sharp at the Legion Hall.
All bowlers who registered to
play in any of the leagues this
year are welcome to attend.

The Exeter Kinsmen Club,
which has done such a fine job
in the past sponsoring various
activities, has approved the op-
eration of the playground and
swimming program again for
this summer.
The overall operation again
will need six playground super-
visors, a swimming instructor,
an assistant swimming instruc-
tor and a lifeguard for the
summer months. Anyone who is
interested in any of these jobs
should answer the ad shown in
another section of this paper
in regards to qualifications etc.

MINOR HOCKEY BANQUET
The Exeter Minor Hockey As-
sociation will officially con-
clude its 1,962-63 winter Pro-
gram with a hockey banquet In
the latter part of May, Efforts-
are being made to secure a
National Hockey League player
as a guest speaker,
At this official windup, all
house league teams as well as
all-star entries will receive
recognition for their efforts.
I would just like to mention
a word about the Exeter Kins-
men midget series with Hunts-
ville Lions. Hunt sv ill e sin-
cerely appreciated the hospit-
ality given to them by Omer
Stringer, Jim Hennessey, Val
and Doug Gould, Mr. and Mrs.
George Rether Sr" Rev. and
Mrs. Bren DeVries and Mr.
and Mrs. Gord Baynham who
billetted boys in their homes.
The Exeter Kinsmen midgets
along with their manager, Lloyd
Cushman, and coach thank the
Exeter people for their loyal
support over the season. The
standing ovation given to our
lads at the end of the last game
was very "moving" to all and
helped to make the defeat a little
less disheartening. Onte again,
thank you!
L.H.Z. BOWLING
Exeter minor league bowling
program continues to pay off. No
less than five of the 12 Lake
Huron Zone trophies were won
last Saturday morning by local
youngsters in the L.H.Z. final.
Last week, 31 teams partici-
pated in a Southern division
tourney at Exeter while another

northern group. This past Sat-

south and north met head-on to
declare Western Ontario cham-

individual honours while the
Exeter junior girls and boys
teams swept their respective

Five goals in the final six
minutes of the game wrapped up
an easy victory and a berth in
Saturday's semi-final.
Jim Hayter nabbed the first
as the result of blocking a
Ridgetown attack at centre and
moved in alone to pick the far
corner.
Coming back on the next rush,
Barry Baynham tipped in Bill
Fairbair n' s relay under a
sprawling goalie.
Marvin Bower, with help from
Ron Janke, notched goal number
six as they caught the opposing
defence out of position,
Graham Bern and Fairbairn
finalized the scoring with sing-

former grabbed a rebound on a
long drive from Philip Howard
and the latter culminated a
triple passing affair with his
line-mates.

over Harriston.
Defence star Phil Howard
carried the length of the ice
to set up goal number one.
His pass hit successful marks-
man Frank de Vries directly
in front of the net for the score.
The top scoring line was
responsible for the balance of
markers, two in the second and
one in the closing session.
Hayter's two were fired on
passes from Barry Baynham.
The second came on a power
play with Exeter enjoying a
one-man advantage.

the rink.

This list, too lengthy for individual men-
tion, would include not only 'the devoted man-
agers and coaches but many parents and inter-
ested fans.
A lot of travelling was involved in the
hunt for tournament and provincial honors and
most of 'this was provided by the coaches and
parents who took care of expenses out of their
own pockets.
Congratulations to everyone connected
with the Exeter Minor Hockey Association!
Rev. Bren DeVries, chairman of EMHA
passes along his appreciation for everyone's co-
operation and states this was the most successful
season 'for the entire program in his five years
in Exeter. He feels that all of the teams, regard-
less of where their travels took them, were a
credit to the community.
Rec Director Don "Boom" Gravett sends
along his thanks to everyone in the winter pro-
gram: "By far this has been the most productive
hockey season for the EMHA right from the house
leagues to all-star category. The youth of Exeter
and district have had a banner year. As rtec Di-
rector, I wish to extend my sincere appreciation
to everyone who had anything to do with the
minor hockey program, whether they were a car
driver, sponsor, manager or coach. Your willing-
ness to co-operate and untiring efforts over the
past six months made this all possible.
"The name of Exeter is known and highly
respected all over Ontario and no matter where
our teams played, win or lose, remarks Were re-
ceived to the effect our 'boys Were a fine bunch
of gentlemen. To me this makes the entire sea-
son worthwhile not only in the building of hockey
champions, but in a more important aspect, the
moulding of sound character in our youth. Con-
grattilationa for a job well done."
The just-concluded minor puck Sea8011. Was
a bang-up success from ,another angle, Vor the
first time the entire minor program was operated
on a sound financial basis, ending on the black
side of the ledger.
Congratulations again to the EMHA, the
able Rec Director and all of the players from
Squirt to Midget, in making this an outstanding
