Wins two close ones to take draw honors Family night this Saturday Exeter Squirts wound up their WOAA season dropping a thril- ler to Walkerton 3-2 on Exeter ice Friday and losing the total- goal final round 8-6. With six of their regulars from Dashwood confined to their homes by a epidemic of the measles, the remaining sqnirts, only ten in number, turned in a tremendous performance. A few breaks in the second period When the locals dominated play throughout could have made the difference. Three pucks in the middle session bounced off the Walker- ton posts and cross-bars and rolled harmlessly away. Jim Bogdon handled all of the Walkerton scoring, notching one in each period. Chris Riddell tallied twice for the local kids with Larry Haugh assisting on each. The next action for the squirts will be in the annual Brampton tournament, meeting Paisley in a two-game series, Saturday April 13 at 1.00 and 6.00 p.m. Audrey McDonald's rink won two playoff games in succession to win the Molson's trophy for the championship in the third draw of the ladies' curling club. Both matches were cliffhan- gers. The champions scored one in the eighth end to defeat Jean Pecille's rink 5-4 in the final, after posting an 8-7 win over Willa Wuerth's foursome in the semi-final. t The McDonald rink captured the first four ends in the final game to take a healthy 4-0 lead before the Pecille group staged a determined rally to tie the score. The latter counted two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh before losing in the eighth. The champion rink includes Verna Fink, vice-skip; Ruby Beaver, second, and Margaret McBride. McGAVIN LIBERAL Musser. Highest no game winner-- Lois Armstrong, Ruby Beaver, Wynne Marshall and Judy Kies- wetter. This win brings the number of trophies and titles the young, *I's have brought home since Christmas to Ave, The string began during Christmas week when top-hon- ors were taken at the Learning- ton Iavitational tourney. Moving in to January and on to Watford, the western Divis- ion of the Silver Stick play was next to fall. In the last few weeks the Combines - continued from page 6 the main thorn in the side of the Combines notching an early goal to give his team a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes of action. Dennis Mock, H-Z star net- minder suffered cuts to his face as the middle frame was closing out and was taken to the Strath- roy Hospital for a stitching job. With only 20 minutes remain- ing to get back into contention Coach Red Loader's pep talk seemed to pay off as his charges came barging out to score a pair of quick ones and take a tem- porary lead. Bill Shaddick and Earl Wag- ner shared the markers before three minutes had elapsed in the final. Harvey Thomas nabbed the equalizer on a solo effort sec- onds later as the tempo of the game speeded up. At 8:17 Ron Carruthers fired home what proved to be the winner. Stout defensive work and spectacular goal guarding by Larry Wood contained the Com- bines the rest of the way and enabled the Strathroy boys to advance to the Ontario final. The second priority is to bring forward concrete measures to expand the economy. These will include a municipal development board to assist municipalities in starting their particular projects; creation of a new Development of Industry to encourage industry in our Huron towns, so that graduating students may find career opportunities at home. It will be possible also to implement plans to deal with difficult farm surpluses. Particular attention will be given the problems of the Ontario farmer, where net farm income fell by $16,000,000 in 1962. An expanded and improved educational training program has a high priority, and will include loans and scholarships for University students, as well as extension of family allowances to include high school students. At this time, too, it will be possible to provide increased security for our older citizens. A national contributory pension plan, completely portable, will provide pension increases for retired persons to $75.00 per month for single people, and $140.00 per month for married couples. aliant FOR VALUE! • ..... .......... — ....................... ......... ...... ..... ......
