Top hats perform in 'Artistry on Ice' carnival
This top hat number was one of 20 presented by Exeter Figure Skating Club at its carnival "Artis-
try on Ice" Saturday night, The show, one of the most colorful staged by the local group, attracted

Members of Exeter Figure
Skating Club, assisted by guest
performers, ,painted a colorful
panorama in the presentatioa
of their annual carnival, "Ar-
tistry on Ice", Saturday night
at the locai arena.
Highlight of the show was
the skating of Bob McCrabb,
Point Edward, Western Ontario
senior men's champion, and the
duet by Miss Mary Sills and
Bruce Brady, Seaforth, Western
Ontario sectional novice pairs
champions.
Woven around these f oc al
points, local skaters presented
a variety of group numbers and
several were featured in solo
parts. Most prominent were
Mary Jane Walsh, whose home
is. London but who is a member
of the Exeter club, and Judy
Estey, the most advanced of
the local performers.
Ten "Blue Bells", all mem,
bers of the home club, were
featured singly in brief solos
in which they displayed a variety
of basic figures.
Club professional Miss Faye
Love, who also contributed a
solo number, received a gift
and flowers from the club in
the traditional recognition du-
ring the finale. The presenta-
tions were made by Cathy Ful-
ler and Gail Ecker.
About 550 attended the show.
In the opening number, eight
girls in plaid skirts and hats
performed the Dutch waltz.
They were Cathy Corbett, Judy
Estey, Pauline Bell, Susan
Broadley, Christine Price, Line
da Lowery, Anne Marie Har-
rell and Arlene Chipchase,
The tiny tots' twist delighted
the audience. In it were Mary
Noonan, Pat Saunders, Janet
Capling, Ann McInnis, Christy
Sue Douglas, Cathy Fuller, Gail
Ecker, John Powell, Barbara

At the close of the meeting
a bake sale was held among
the members. Mrs. Gerald Cor-
ey and Miss Olive Speare as-
sisted by the hostess served
lunch.
CLUB TO VISIT OAC
On March 23 Perth County
4-H Sheep Club held its third
meeting at Rannoch Town Hall
with twelve members present.
Bruce McCorquodale spoke
on sheep parasite control with
the assistance of Norman Mc-
Cully and Donald Kernick.
The next meeting will be a
trip to the OAC to attend the
sheep field day on April 11.

J. A. Traquair, of Traquair's
Hardware, Main St., celebrates
50 years in the hardware in-
dustry this week with a store-
wide golden anniversary sale,
The event features draws for
a number of door prizes, an open
house both afternoon and even-
ing Friday, April 5, and a host
of bargains in every line.
Mr. Traquair started his car-
eer in 1913 as a clerk in the
hardware store of R. M. Cow-
ard, Readlyn, Sask. After
spending several years in the
west, he returned to Ontario
and was employed by Bonthron
Forest Hill Public School, and
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archie
Dewar was seen on TV Monday
and Saturday over Channel 6, on
a panel discussion with a lady
from Germany regarding the
bringing up of the teenagers of
today.
CARS COLLIDE
What could have been a very
serious accident happened on
the Base line last week due to
a blizzard between the snow
drifts piled on each side of the
road at Gordon Wilson's.
Mrs. Cronin, mail driver,
and a lady from Kitchener ran
head on into one another smash-
ing both cars.
Mrs. Cronin was taken to St.
Marys Hospital by ambulance.
Other than a few minor breaks,
she is resting comfortably there
for a few weeks. The other lady
and two children returned to her
home.
Mr. Howard Rinn and Miss
Noreen Walkom were guests
with Mr. and Mrs. W. Taskett
of London on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Weibe and
family visited with Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Parkinson and family on
Sunday evening.
Mr. Oliver Baker and Mr.
Fred Parkinson took in the
Perth Holstein Breeders bus
trip on Monday when they vis-
ited many farms at Alliston
Bond Head and Maple.

Mr. Jules DeBrabandere has
purchased the farm of Mr. and
Mrs. Archie Dewar. Due to ill
health of Mr. Dewar they are
leaving the farm.

sary, Mr. Traquair has been
awarded the Estwing Gold Ham-
mer, given to people who have
served in the hardware field for
a half-century or more, He is
one of few to be so honored by
the Estwing Manufacturing Co.,
Rockford, Illinois, manufactur-
ers of the "unbreakable" one-
piece steel and leather handled
hammers and hatchets.
The award itself is a full
size 14 karat gold-plated Est-
wing hammer mounted on a
polished, beautifully g r ain e d
plaque,
Ernest Estwing, president of
the company responsible for the
award, stated, "I wish it were
possible to have been able to
make the presentation person-
ally to Mr. Traquair, My com-
pany and myself are with him
in spirit and wish Mr. Tra-
quail- everything good for con-
tinued success and many, many
more years in the hardware
business."
Mr. Traquair was married
in 191'7 to the former Lillian
Harden, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Harden
of Okatops, Aita. They have
two children -- Mrs. John

and Girls Fellowship depart-
ment; Mrs. Chas Snell for pre-
sidents; Mrs. Sid Baker for
missionary education; Mrs. Ho-
ward Klumpp and Mrs. Ervin
Schade for treasurers. Mrs.
Merrill James was leader for
the training and discussion in
the Youth Department.
DASHWOOD DAY
Thursday, March 28, Bill and
Helen Sturdevant will donate all
proceeds from their laundromat
at Grand Bend to the Dashwood
Community Centre.
MERRY MAIDS
The sixth meeting of the girls
4-H club was held at the home
of Diane Weber with the lea-
ders, Mrs. Leonard Schenk and
Mrs. Stuart Wolfe and 16 girls
present.
Mrs, Vesta Miller was pre-
sent and gave the girls advice
on the care and styling of hair.
The next meeting Will be
held at Yvonne Devineo s with the
roll call one point to remember
in the care of nylons.

The WSWS meeting of the
EUB Church will be held Friday
evening, March 29, Guest spea-
ker will be Mrs. RahertStormes
of St. Thomas, who will be
accompanied by Miss Leslie
Tonge, daughter of Rev. and
Mrs. Walton Tonge, who are
United Church missionaries in
Hong Kong, where they have
served for the past five years.
Mrs. Stormes will also be ac-
companied by Miss Holly Utting
who is the daughter of a Royal
Bank of Canada manager sta-
tioned in Hong Kong for the
past year and a half. Her pa-
rents are now in New York.
The girls will appear in native
costume and slides of Hong Kong
will be shown.
Henry Hoffman is a patient
in South Huron Hospital, Exeter.
