ARTS & CRAFTS
A four-week arts and crafts
programme will start in the
basement of the Exeter Public
Library this Saturday morning
at 10:00 p.m.
Classes are for Public and
theg
Separateaeofs;heyoelareshiolldd.ren up to
Working through the co-ope-
ration of the Exeter Recreation
Council, a team of six girls
will conduct the classes as part
of an "Air Ranger Flight" pro-
ject.
The girls include Carolynne
Simmons, Shirley Genttner,
Sandra Hunter, Marion Bentley
and Lana Keller.
Classes will be broken down
into three age groups. I suggest
that anyone able to make it to
the library onSaturda.y morning
for the next four weeks, do so
because the "Air Ranger
Flight" have a very interesting
programme lined up for every-
one.

man.
A steady team effort and the
ability to stick strictly to hockey
despite the tactics of the oppo-
sition were the main reasons
the local youngsters came home
one up in the series.
GRAYER BAGS FIVE
A highly productive third pe-
riod in which seven goals were
scored gave Derry Boyle' s ban-
tams a fairly easy triumph in
the opener.
Smooth-skating Bob Grayer
ran off with the scoring honours
netting five goals, four coming
in the free-scoring last period.
The teams traded goal for
goal in the first 20 minutes to
end up in a 2-2 deadlock. Paul
Mason and Grayer fired for
Exeter with Gary Carter and
John Douglas replying for the
hometowners.
Mason with his second and
David Burke with a single put
their team out in front 4-2 as
the middle session closed.
In the final period the roof
fell in on the Wingham young-
sters as Derry got his team
into high gear and they res-
ponded with a barrage of seven.
Bob Grayer was the mainstay
Of the closing scoring spree,
finding the mark for four, with
singletons being added by Bill
Beavers, Randy Weber and Paul
Mason.
Minor Rackey House League
playoffs get into full swing this
Saturday morning, The Pee
Wees open up their playoffs with
a round-rebin series which will
take five weeks to complete,.
Main reason for the round-robin
affair is to give everyone a
chance to play in the playoffs.
The Midget -Juvenile Reuse
League will also open a five-
week round-robin series star-
ting on Tuesday night. Both
the Pee Wee and Midget-Juve-
nile Leagues have six teams.
The Bantam loop, which plays
every Monday and Tuesday eve-
ning from 6 - '7 p.m., will not
start their playoffs for two
weeks. The Bantams are en-
gaged in a four team league.
ADULT ART
The Exeter Adult Art Class
has completed its regular 12
week sessions under professio-
nal instructor Greg Curnoe of
London. However, because the
group has enjoyed the instruc-
tion atmosphere and painting so
much, they have extended the
classes for another four weeks.
Prior to the extra programme
a beginner class had been held
from '7-8 p.m. while a third
year group painted from 8-10
p.m. With the new arrangement,
both first and third year pain-
ters will paint at the same time.
SKATING CARNIVAL
The Exeter Figure Skating
Club ispreparing for its annual
figure skating carnival, which
will be held this year in the
Exeter Arena on Saturday,
March 23rd.
The theme of thisyear'spre-
sentation is "Artistry On Ice".
Professional instructor Faye
Love of Seaforth has been wor-
king hard with the local young-
sters and if enthusiasm counts
at all, a fine presentation will
be seen on carnival night, March
23rd.

banged in a single sandwiched
between a pair from the stick
of Stu O'Neil to wind up the scor-
ing for the night.
As was the case in Friday's
contest the team on the short
end of the score as time was
running out pulled its goalie in
favour of an extraforward. This
time with the situation rever-
sed, the Combines put on the
pressure but were unable to
come up with the equalizer.
Only three penalties were
called by the officials, with only
the last one having any effect
on the scoreboard. Bob Bueten-
miller was sitting out an inter-
ference infraction when Stu o'
Neil found the mark for the
second time.
L-'I gets opener
With playing-coach Max 0'
Neil providing the scoring
punch, the Luc an-Ilde rton Com-
bines took a one game edge in
their best of seven semi-final
Big Eight series with Seaforth
by edging the Towners 3-2 on
Lucan ice Friday.
O'Neil scored a pair in a
minute and five seconds late in
the second period to put his
club into a 2-0 lead after forty
minutes of play. Steve Storey
provided the set-ups on both of
his coach's scores.
Jack Mcllwain kept the Tow-
ners in the game with a duo of
unassisted goals in the closing
twenty minutes, the second
coming with three minutes left
on the clock, Both were accom-
plished on neat displays of
stickhandling that shook him
loose on clean cut breakaways.
Barry Hearn fired what pro-
ved to be the winner a minute
before McIlwain's last score on
a low, driving shot from about
15 feet out after Boom Gravett
had broken up a Seaforth rush
and flipped the rubber in froet.
Towner's goalie, Gar Baker,
was yanked in favor of a sixth
attacker in the last minute of
action, but Keith Scarborough
kept the swarmingSeaforth boys
off the score sheet with an out-
standing effort.
Both clubs turned in typical
play-off styles Of hockey, which
sent the crowd of about 300
home happy.
Steve Storey's stickhandling
ability in getting the puck otit
of his own end repeatedly got
the Combines out of hot Water.
Only five penalties all of the
minor variety were called by
referees Ken McFadden and
Fred Houghton of London, four
being assessed to Seaforth.

Gat Bedard brought groans
from the goodly number of Cen-
tralia supporters on hand as he
fired a high drive from the
left side that found the mark to
put the teams on even terms at
3-3.
At the 1'7.55 mark, Murray
Bird took a Bedard pass-out
directly in front and gave Rick
Tremblay no chance at all as he
fired a low, hard shot into a. cor-
ner of the cage to score what
proved to be the winner.
Facing elimination in the final
two minutes the Hawks put on
terrific pressure and had the
Bordenites hanging on the ropes
at the finish as they iced the
puck three times in the closing
seconds.
Several of these icing shots
barely missed the empty Cen-
tralia net that had been vacated
in favor of e sixth attacker.

Intermediate OHA ranks, was
the big stumbling block for the
Hawks as he came up with key
saves all evening, being espe-
cially effective with his pads in
kicking the rebounds out to-
wards the blue-line, past the
incoming forwards.
At the other end of the rink,
Rick Tremblay deserves equal
credit as his puck stoppingbor-
dered on the sensational most of
the evening. The only time in the
entire contest that he Was caught
out of position, defenceman Dori
Seale came to his rescue in
clearing a sliding puck thateva.s
heading for the line inthe Open-
ing Mothents.
