The youngstera :rem Exeter
put the game in the bag with
a trio of markers in the final
15 minutes as Baynham aabbed
a pair and Loader picked up
the odd seOre.
Loader's scere came on a
long drive :rain near the, point
that trickled tbrough the goa-
lie's pads and Baynharrt was
rewarded on his first try, a
high, hard shot from 40 feet
out and secondly as he whacked
in Graham gern's rebound from
the edge of the goal crease,
A rather rare penalty was
called by referees Noel Whitney
of Royal Oak and Doug Mc-
Gregor of Forest after Exeter
had registered the opening tally.
Neil Fitenen of Boughton was
waved to the sin bin on a mis-
conduct offence as he fished
the puck out of the net and
slammed it the length of the
rink.
Shots on goal, with the locals
out in front 28-6, fairly indica-
tes, the territorial edge they
enjoyed throughout the contest.
TOURNEY TALES
The winners from Don Mills
are currently in first place in
the Atom Division of the Toronto
Hockey League.
The major portion of the work
entailed in the Sunday tourna-
ment under the overall direction
of Silver Stick Commissioner
J.J. Kinsella of Ottawa was
handled by a pair of veteran
Port Huron hockey enthusiasts,
Fred L a mli n e and Ken Mc-
Intyre.
These hard-working gentle-
men are the driving force behind
a fast-growing minor ice deve-
lopment in the border city.
Originating their program
seven years ago, they were
forced to use the ice facilities
of neighbouring Ontario towns,
until this year when they moved
into their present home which
is housed in a fabulous new
auditorium costing approxima-
tely five million dollars.
One hindrance to a minor
program such as they are pri-
vileged to partake of in Port
Huron would be the high cost
of ice time, $25 per hour. The
management of this beautiful
arena is in the capable hands
of Howard Radford formerly
in charge of auditoriums at
Guelph, North Bay and Peter-
bore.
Another Silver Stick Tourney
will be held in Cranston, Rhode
Island, primarily for east coast
clubs during Easter week.

Due mainly to weather con-

winning in their only times out
to remain in the top spots.
The two leading clubs will

WIN AT ZURICH
Performing on Zurich ice for
the first time this season;Hen-
sall-Zurich Combines sent
their fans home in a happy
frame of mind as they skated
to an easy 14-1 triumph over
a short-handed Lucan junior
crew in Shamrock action Fri-
day.
Loop-leading scorer Bill
Shaddick again showed the way
with four goals and three as-
sists, A week earlier in Hen-
salt he scored the first of the
game after only twelve seconds
of play; this time the popular
centre found the range as the
clock reached the eight second
mark.
Linemate Steve Kyle shared
the scoring spotlight with a
hat-trick for his night's outing.
Captain Wayne Willert, used
up front and on defence, found
the range twice, with single
tallies being added by Paul
Draper, Bruce Horton, Harold
Jacques, Earl Wagner and John
Varley.
In addition to netting the only
Lucan score, Dennis Morrissey
turned in a stand-out effort in
a losing cause with his per-
sistent checking and neat stick-
handling.

show their talents.

proud of their yeeng hockey
preseatatives who, in spite of
dropping a very close encoun-
ter, continued to sham excellent

named goed-will ambassadors.
Win Watford trophy
Capturing two consecutive
wins on Watford ice Saturday,
Exeter Pee Wees won the third
annual Southwestern Ontario
area Silver Stick Tournament
and the Watford Branch 172
Canadian 'Legion Trophy. Pla-
yers and management received
sterling silver hockey stick pins
in recogaition of their accom-
plishment.
After winning two games the
previous Saturday to reach the
semi-finals, the champions
downed St. Clair Shores, Michi-
gan, in the morning contest 3-2
and came back to down their
neighbors from St. Marys in
the afternoon final 5-3.
FAIRBAIRN NETS CLINCHER
In downing St, Clair Shores
in the semi-final, the Exeter
youngsters tallied once in every
period, each goal coming on a
solo effort with Bill Fairbairn
notching the winner, 30 seconds
from the conclusion.
Frank DeVries scored unas-
sisted in the opening frame and
Barry Baynham whacked in the
rubber from the side of the
cage in the middle period after
blocking a clearing pass to
give the locals a 2-0 margin.
Mike Scally and Tom Besnig
repl1ed for the Michigan boys
in the final period to set the
stage for the game-winning rush
by Fairbairn to put his team
into the finals.
Although the score was tied
nearing the final whistle, Loa-
der's kids were well out in
front in the shots on goal de-
partment, which would have de-
cided the issue in case of a
knotted count at the end of
regulation time.
The morning tilt was featured
by strong skating and end-to-
end rushes by both teams which
produced the best brand of puck
chasing of the day.
TAKE EARLY LEAD
Returning to the ice with a
few hours of rest and instruc-
tions from Coach Red Loader
to continue the same type of
hard skating that featured the
earlier game, the youngsters
responded with four quick mar-
kers to take a 4-1 edge into
the middle period.
Ricky Weber, Bill Fairbairn,
Frank DeVries and John Loader
were on the firing end of the
opening scores. Harold McCut-
cheon found the range for the
Stone Town kids.
Weber nabbed his second
counter of the match to put
the game out of reach of the
St. Marys boys.
Bob Sutherland and Bill Rior-
dan found the mark for the
losers late in the game to
bring the final count to 5-3.
Shut out Mitchell
Returning to local WO AA
competition after a hectic week-
end in Watford and Port Huron,
Exeter Pee Wees continued
their smooth style of play to
down Mitchell 3-0 in the Perth
town Monday night.
Bill Fairbairn led the local
scoring production with a pair
of goals while Barry Baynham
added a single tally.
John Loader collected assists
on all the scoring plays by
his line-mates.
John Veley, representing a
sales promotion firm, spoke
to Exeter Lions Club Thursday
night at its dinner meeting at
Centralia.
Mr. Veley proposed a com-
munity-wide sales program for
town merchants and suggested
they undertake a shopping plaza
type of promotion.
He was introduced by Tom
MacMillan and thanked by Pre-
sident Fred Darling.
On Feb. 28, Lions will see
a CNIB film depicting the new
summer recreation area, Camp
Joseph, in the Muskoka district.
