EXETER TOWN HALL ©CUNA Letters To Editor - Continued from page 3 dent of world politics. Canada is a second or third rate power. Anything which our leaders say or do does not control eeneral world policy and in the event of a war our protests would be Completely ignored and we would still suffer the full effects of the bolacaust. Even if we declare complete neutrality it will not help us. We are a convenient battle ground in just the same way as the Lybian Desert was a con- venient battle ground during the war with Germany, Surely E. K. will, if he suffers from cancer, obtain such relief as is possible from his family doctor and others, and surely the country would be very stupid not to have an organization standing by which can give a great deal of help in case of atomic attack. This one final paragraph. The general implication in E. K's entire letter is that emergency measures personnel want war. This is utterly ridiculous. I think that E. K. will find that EMO officials in the county have had much more first hand ex- perience of war than he has had, and because of that we under- stand and dislike war to a very great degree. EMO officials are convinced that the first line of defence against an atomic bomb is to see that it never goes off and their main line of endeavour is to that end. They are sincere enough to want to continue in their work if a bomb should explode and they have already volunteered for the positions of danger should there be an atomic catas- trophe. This they have done be- cause of their belief that through their efforts they can do a vast amount to aid their fellow man. EMO personnel are not deal- ing with vague generalities as E. K. does. They are utilizing the knowledge obtainable from the best brains available, and statements which they make are made on a basis of the latest available scientific knowledge. If E. K. can tell us how to pre- vent war, let him do so. "He has not done so yet." It will be a criminal act on his part to with- hold such knowledge. W. R. Craven, Publicity Director Emergency Measures Organization. Goderich, Ont. VALENTINE BALL, sponsor- ed by Beta Sigma Phi, Ex- eter Legion Hall, Thursday, February 14, 1963.
