CURLING
Interest 1n curling is continuing on the up.
swing with the present membership. of 300 at the
:Exeter Curling Club.
The local curlers started off the year by
treating their guests rather poorly in their second
Annual mixed bonspiel. as two home rinks won
the top honors, Foursomes skipped by Dick jerinyn
and Ken Ottewell earned the 'prizes in both events.
Rinks headed by Marian Fletcher. CathY
$outhcott and Lois Ottewell were crowned as
ladies' champs in the three draws held during. the
year.
Lee Learn skipped his rink to the Exeter
club's men's grand championship. After winning
the first draw, the milkman went on to topple the
other draw winners, Gord McTavish and the Bill
Allison,Doug Hughson combination.
In local open bonspiels and out-of-town play.
local curling. enthusiasts fared very well. A ladies'

in an open 'spiel in Strathroy, Lee Webber holds
the distinction of guiding three rinks to titles in
open competition in the district Charlie Shane's
group copped Division 14 laurels in British Consul
playdowns and Bev Morgan led a rink to the One
tario playoffs of the Massey-Ferguson Curlerama.
BOWLING
Up at Exeter Bowling Lanes. Aub Farquhar
reports more than 700 bowlers actually participate
in league competition.
In men's loop play. a new power came to
the fore, with Gunn's Kingpins notching the B
title and going on to edge the "A" champs, Spares,
for the grand championship. Individually, Jack
Fuller copped the average crown with 233, Tim
Stires threw a high 378 single and Jim Fairbairn
earned the high triple award with 945.

the past year, Eleven-year-old Donny Campbell fired
- a 358 single, while teen-age Don Wright came up
with a score of an even 400.

Darling, a happy 81st birthday this week.

Lloyd Greenacre hit the headlines i wice
during the year. His initial claim to fame was post-
ing the first par 34 on the newly founded Exeter
. course, August 9. Not to be outdone by himself,
he came back on October 19 to post a par-break-
ing 33. The important factor in this low score was
a hole-in-one potted on the 200-yard seventh hole.
Jim Russell, trading a baseball bat for golf
club, 'took home both the medal and match play
trophies provided by the Exeter Golf Club.
BASKETBALL

ROD AND GUN
in hunting circles. an enviable record was
set when the Shipka sharpshooter, Gorden Rat's,
bagged five deer on a two-day hike into the woods

fn teaching young boys the art of safely handling

in St, Marvs. The speedy youngster sprinted eft
with four :firsts and was the anchor man on the
