This young club provided plenty 'of thrills for the hockey fans of the district, who 'Often packed Hensall arena to prove once again the strength of homebrew competition. Bill Shaddiek walked off with the Shamrock junior scoring title and, as of the moment, again leads the pack in this new season, in which the Loader-coached erew remains undefeated. Luean-Ilderton Combines handily captured the Big Eight league title, claiming 23 straight vic- tories, before losing the final scheduled tilt. Max O'Neil's boys came up with seven more wins on the play-off trail before dropping their last three contests to Port Dover in the OFIA finals, Steve Storey and playing coach O'Neil shar- ed the league scoring title, claiming 75 points 'apiece. Although Exeter Mohawks had a disastrous season, winning only five times, some consolation was derived in the gaining of the most valuable player award by playing-coach Don "Boom" Gra- vett. There were some bright spots in the Exeter minor hockey set-up. The Bantam B club under Leo "Dusty" Burns rolled to the WOAA title with 18 consecutive triumphs, only to lose to Strathroy in OHA play. In the annual Georgetown tourney, Easter week, the locals lost a heart-breaker 1-0 in the finals to a big club from Copper Cliff. This final contest, although only an exhibition tournament, actually could be compared to an all-Ontario series. Red Loader's pee wees, after copping the annual Shamrock meet in Lucan, were only able to equal their previous efforts in the all-Canada tournament in Goderich. Here again, the locals ran into trouble from the north, this time a squad from Gerson, who eliminated Red's kids. Although winning their first series, Exeter squirts failed in their attempt to recapture the trophy that was brought home the year previous froM Brampton, Up Zurich way, Don O'Brien's bantams cop- ped. the WOAA "D" laurels and after knocking off Alvinston, lost to Plattsville in the OMI-IA semi- finals. In OBA play the Boyle-coached squad met Campbellville in the first round and were ousted in straight games. The locals home contest with their eastern opponents was the best-played game seen at the Exeter park in 1962. Although the Huron-Perth title series wasn't completed due to weather conditions, I'm sure Derry Boyle will agree the trophy was leaning to- wards the village of Zurich. Don O'Brien's Ifoys from Zurich, after a Slew start in the schedule, picked up steam come play-off time and were playing an excellent brand of ball on the layolown After ousting Homan to earn the right to advance, the Lumber Kings eliminated Clarksburg in easy fashion and extended Walsingham before losing out, The third Huron-Perth club to advance into 013A action, Staffa Merchants. ran into a powerful group from Caledonia and were eliminated in five games. Up Hensall way, their minor teams enjoyed a banner year.
