MRS.. CLIFF .C.RONKITE, PROPRIETRESS
December 8, 1962. will go
down. in history for the village
as a special red letter day,
when the Businessmen's As-
sociation staged their third
Santa Claus parade.
After the delightful, mild,
balmy weather enjoyed by To-
ronto, London and Exeter for
their parades Lucanites felt the
weatherman was handing them
a raw deal when Thursday's
storm of rain, snow and sleet
increased on Friday, with pre-
dictions of more snow for Sat-
urday. However, to the sur-
Prise and delight of all, it was
an ideal day—clear sunny and
cold in a setting of snow cov-
ered ground.
Long before the appointed
hour of 2,30 p.m., cars loaded
with adults and children were
seeking parking spaces on side
streets and soon Main St. from
end to end was lined with old.
and young eagerly awaiting
Lucan.'s big parade which be-
gan at. the arena, went down
to the Fine Station and returned
to the arena, giving everyone a
second opportunity to view it.
The parade began with cars
containing the police, Hon. W.
A. Stewart, Reeve Ivan Hearn,
village council and Clint Hod-
gins i well known sulky driver;
aad Mrs. K. Dickson and Mrs.
Wallace riding t he i r show
horses. These were followed by
bliss Dorothy Pierce's inajoits
tars and the Sarnia Lionette.

to the decorating of this float
with a rocket on top.
After this float was Roy Park•

opening of Culbert's Decorat-
ing Centre. Then came Mrs.

Darling's horses, the IGA truck

Dee. 13. the Woodstock Whirl-
ers majorettes, and the Boy

the Wraith and Storey float—
another colorful float with the
slogan 'Lunn a Good Place to
Live and Play". On the truck
were children with posters rep-
resenting school, church. Teen-
Town, sports and fire dept.
This was followed by the Teen
Town float loaded with chil-
dren, and the Public School
floats. Next came Mr. Russell
Bowman and his daughter, Mrs.
Bob Evens, dressed in the "Gay
Nineties'', riding in an ancient
decorated buggy loaned by Mr.
Clarence Hackett and pulled by
Bill Banting's 3'i-year-old
horse. Mr, Bowman was spon-
soring his daughter's "Snipp

This was followed by Harold

horses. Clarence Carter's go-

Davis Hardware float, depict-
ing a Christmas scene with
grandma and five children,
Last but not least came the
Scott Elevator float with old
Santa Claus himself, sitting in
a cutter in a Christmas setting
extending a greeting to one
and all.
So ended Lucan's "biggest
little Christmas parade in West-
ern Ontario". Tired business
men, who had worked so hard
to really put Lucan on the map,
felt much better as congratula-
tions began to pour in from .all
sides. Can they possibly pro-
duce a bigger and better pa-
rade in 1963, only time—and
