Welfare of nurses One of the main interests of the Auxiliary has been the wel- fare and comfort of the nurses and staff. A television was pur- chased in 1951 and the Auxiliary furnished the living room when the nurses' residence was 'built. Incidentals such as hair dryer, electric saucepan, magazines, and barbecue equipment have been added from time to time. Gilts were presented to the nuress' aides at the capping ceremonies. A bursary of $100 a year for three years was established in 1957 for a Grade 12 or 13 SH- DHS student. who chooses nurs- ing as a career. The Auxiliary is currently preparing for the •new certified. nurses' aid class to commence in February 1963. Desks have been purchased and the base- ment kitchen is being remod- elled for their use. A 'nurses committee in the Auxiliary plans for the comfor: of the staff in general and en- tertains them at a dinner and program each ,year. The establishment of good re- lations has been uppermost in the planning of the Auxiliary-- good relations with the Hos- pital Board, the hospital staff and the community. Members assisted at the opening of the hospital and of the new wing,' A t'epresentative of the Auxil- iary reports. the activities of the Auxiliary to the Board and reports back the Board meet- figs to the Auxiliary. A report from the Exeter Unit of the Cancer Society is given at each Auxiliary meet- ing. The local Auxiliary hosted the regional meeting in Exeter in April 1957 and expect to have the spring regional meeting held here again, Ways and means Four main projects in the year have been the major source of the funds for the Auxiliary. In addition to the Tag Day mentioned previously a card party in the winter and a spring and fall rummage sate have proved.. successful. The historian reports the rummage sales as being "bigger and bet- ter each year". The sale of baby sitters and match sales at the Buckley also augments the treasury, Last week the hospital ad- ministrators of Huron County met at South Huron Hospital and as Aliss Claypole was con- ducting them on a tour of the hospital one of them remarked: "Heavens: You have an auxil- iary that t•tally works." "What they have done for us. I'll never forget." Miss .Clay- pole said, "They're a wonder- ful bunch of people." Mrs. J. B, Dclbridge in trib- ute to the Auxiliary said the nurses seem to come first in everything the Auxiliary plans, They couldn't treat the nurses any better.
