jr, Institute were given six
safety posters each to place in
farm buildings, with a $5 prize
to the farm owner .chosen and
$1.0 to tic girl or girls who
placed the posters at that farm.
it was announced at the Jr.
Institute meeting last Monday
evening that Kathleen and Edna
Ryan were the winners for the
Lucan branch, who shared the
$10 and Air, and Mrs. Cliff
Shipley of Lucan won the $5
farm prize. Mrs. Shipley gen-
erously donated her $5 to the
branch to assist in the upkeep
of the six-year-old. Italian child
which the branch members
have adopted.
Each member also donated a
gift of clothing to be sent •as
Christma.s gifts to the child,

Harrigan was named as her
successor, The meeting was held
at the home of Helen Hodgins
with. president Kathleen Ryan
in the chair.
After the business session the
girls were joined by the mem-
bers of the jr. Farmers and
plans were made for a Christ-
mas party of cards and danc-
ing, to be held at the Neil
school-house on concession 2,
McGillivray, the date to be de-
cided at the dance at the Com-
munity Centre, Nov. 16.

The Lucan Canadian Legion
Auxiliary held a successful ba-
zaar and tea at the Legion Hall
Saturday,
The president, Mrs. A. E.
Reilly recived. at the door, Mrs.
Russell Goddard was in charge
of admissions, Mrs. C. R. Mack-
lem, • the "touch and take",
Mrs. Harold Butler Jr., the
baking, Mrs. Dave Egan, 'the
sewing and fancy work, Mrs,
Harry Bond, the selling of tick-
ets on the $10 mystery box and
the fancy cake, made and iced
by Mrs. Ernest Ross.
In. the kitchen were Mrs. Pat
Crudge and. Mrs. Keith Mont-
gomery and serving in the tea
room, Mrs. James Freeman,
Mrs. Lloyd Mason, Mrs, Keith
Dickson and Mrs. Ben Seifried,
Mrs. Ira Carling drew Mrs.
Pat Crudge's ticket for the win-
ner of the mystery box and
Mrs. Mabel Ryan drew Mrs.

Last Tuesday morning Mr.
joseph Haskett, 4 fernier Bid-
&anti. councillor and Lucan
trict farmer, was working on
his combine in. the yard, when
he somehow got his right arm
in the machine, He was alone
in the yard at the time and it
seemed an hour te him before
Mrs. Haskett happened to come
to the door and answered his
call for help. She, summoned the
doctor and assistance from the
Fina. Station, wbo had difficulty
releasing him.
Mr, Haakett was taken by C.
Haskett Son ambulance to
St. joseph's Hospital, London,
where his arm was pill in a
cast, It is not known yat just
how badly the arm is injured..
Last Wednesday Mr. Ed.
Mitchell e RR 1 Denfield got
his right arm caught in a corn
picker. He, too, was alone at
the time of the accident, Final-
ly his brother, Arthur. who lives
on the same farm, heard his
calls for help and called his
neighbors. Two garage men,
Glen stoner and Jim Wardell,
released Mr. Mitchell with cut-
ting torches.
He was taken by the 'Denning
Bros, ambulance to the Strath.

Legion Auxiliary entered the

Lady honored
for Bible work
Mrs. J. F. Sadleir of Sarnia
honored recently by friends and
members of the Sarnia Branch
of the Western Auxiliary of the
Canadian Bible Society for many
years of service and leader-
ship given to the Sarnia branch.
The gathering was in charge
of the pastor of the Baptist
church, "The Sag-a of the Bible"
was shown.
Following a review of Mrs.
Sadleir's work, Rev. J. C.
Thompson district secretary of
London, presented her with a
life governorship in the Canad-
ian Bible Society Auxiliary to
the British and Foreign Society,
on behalf of the group. Mrs.
Sadleir's daughter, Mrs, Nelson
Allen, thanked the group for
the honor bestowed on her
mother,
Lots of water in Lucan
Lucan got its share of the
rain storm said to be one of the
worst in southern Ontario since
1954, Friday and Saturday,
Residents woke up Saturday
morning to find basements
flooded, sump pumps going,
gardens and roads flooded as
well as the creek full of water.
The Legion Hall grounds were
badly flooded and the new ceno-
taph committee badly discour-
aged of ever being able to hold
the Sunday service, as rain
continued most of Saturday.
