Fire Prevention Week
This year the Lucan Public
School did not have any large
Fire Prevention program as in
other years but they did have
fire drill Friday afternoon and
are having another Tuesday of
this week. As the school is
fortunate in having five exits
it was possible to have the
building cleared Friday in 50
seconds.
Recreation
activities
By NORM CARTER
Ice time at the arena is be-
ing used considerably, with
hockey practices, public skat-
ing and the like.
The Lucan OHA Junior "D"
Club got their first game under
their belts Friday evening, com-
ing up with quite a good per-
formance in a 5-5 tie with the
Exeter club. Another practice
for the Juniors is slated for
Tuesday night and they will be
playing another exhibition game
this coming Friday against Hen-
salt at 8.30 p.m. So it is up to
all you folks to get out and
give thase lads all the support
they rightly deserve.
Pre-Teen Town gets under-
way this week with a dance on
Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. and a
meeting of the executive on
Thursday at 7.00 p.m,
On Friday the Lions Club
hold their usual monthly dance
at the arena. On Saturday there
is the usual Saturday night
dance with the Canadian Play-
boys.
Next Wednesday, October 31
the Lions Club are holding their
annual Halloween party at the
arena.
As probably everyone knows
by now a proposed new cooling
system-swimming pool will be
started on in the near future.
It is my contention, as recrea-
tion director, that the only way
this project can be successful
is with the full co-operation of
everyone in the community,
The type of co-operation that
will be of the utmost importance
is that which built the existing
arena, financial support and the
sweat of labor of every able
man in the district. So when
you good folks are approached
for help in any of these ways
please do your very best to
make this thing a success.

Library Board discards books
The Lucan Public Library
Board was advised that Mrs.
Whiteway, Middlesex County
Librarian, had examined and
discarded approximately 400
obsolete books from the library
shelves. It was decided to offer
the discarded books to library
members free of charge when
display space has been obtained
in the library room. Any re-
maining books will be donated
to the next Boy Scout paper
drive.
As a result of the additional
shelf space available, about 500
volumes were obtained at the
last County book exchange. Ad-
ditional volumes will be obtain-
ed if warranted.
Approximately 150 persons
have become members since
the Public Library was estab-
lished last June, A number of
these are residents of Biddulph
township who are taking advan-
tage of the special arrange-
ments made with the Biddulph
