London. Guests were present from Cape Breton to Calgary, as well as many from the Mr. Lionel Massey, honorary president, and administrator of theRoyal Ontario Museum, To- ronto, was the guest speaker at the Saturday banquet which was followed by the liberating of five pigeons and an evening dance, The ladies had a special sitincheon on Saturday at the Gebblestone Inn with a sit, a, seeing tour, Mrs. Massey was „guest, of honor at this outing, Sunday's finale was a smor- gasbord luncheon at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Jack Higgin- eon. of Byron, where a tent had been erected to accommodate the 200 guests. Saturday afternoon, 60 mem- bers from Canada and the U.S.A. came out to Lucan to visit all the Hardy lofts and on Monday Mr. and Mrs, Frank Hardy had as guests from the group, Mr. and Mrs, Nelson Cronin and Miss Doris Cronin of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Roy. Campbell and Mrs. Margaret Milke of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs, Joseph Thompson and Mrs. Florence Gamble. of Windsor and Mr, and Mrs. Carol Winter- beta of Toronto. Fire Prevention Week This year the Lucan Public School did not have any large Fire Prevention program as in other years but they did have fire drill Friday afternoon and are having another Tuesday of this week. As the school is fortunate in having five exits it was possible to have the building cleared Friday in 50 seconds. Recreation activities By NORM CARTER Ice time at the arena is be- ing used considerably, with hockey practices, public skat- ing and the like. The Lucan OHA Junior "D" Club got their first game under their belts Friday evening, com- ing up with quite a good per- formance in a 5-5 tie with the Exeter club. Another practice for the Juniors is slated for Tuesday night and they will be playing another exhibition game this coming Friday against Hen- salt at 8.30 p.m. So it is up to all you folks to get out and give thase lads all the support they rightly deserve. Pre-Teen Town gets under- way this week with a dance on Wednesday at 6.30 p.m. and a meeting of the executive on Thursday at 7.00 p.m, On Friday the Lions Club hold their usual monthly dance at the arena. On Saturday there is the usual Saturday night dance with the Canadian Play- boys. Next Wednesday, October 31 the Lions Club are holding their annual Halloween party at the arena. As probably everyone knows by now a proposed new cooling system-swimming pool will be started on in the near future. It is my contention, as recrea- tion director, that the only way this project can be successful is with the full co-operation of everyone in the community, The type of co-operation that will be of the utmost importance is that which built the existing arena, financial support and the sweat of labor of every able man in the district. So when you good folks are approached for help in any of these ways please do your very best to make this thing a success. C.
