UCW presents skit
The UCW meeting was held
at the home of MN, Henry
Hartle in Parkhill with Mrs,
Ken Rock and Mrs. Roy Whit-
ing in charge of the worship
service. Mrs. Rock gave a talk
on "Using our talents",
A skit "How to call on a -new
member" was presented by
Mrs, Rock, Mrs. Whiting, Mrs,
Joe Horner, Mrs. Harold. Bro-
phey and. Mrs. Bus Lagerwerf.
Mrs. Herb .Marlton, the supply
secretary, asked that articles
for the bale be brought in. Sev-
eral items pertaining to the
turkey supper October 5 were
discussed. A shower of tea-
towels from the ladies for the
kitchen was asked for, Mrs. J,
Geromette gave a reading "The
Parable of the Good Samaritan"
for stewardship.
The September meeting will
be held in the church.

at area meet
Although they failed to win
any team awards. Exeter ath-
letes copped one individual
championship at the Lake Hur-
on zone track meet held in Kin-
cardine Wednesday. '
Speedy Jack (Hover of Exe,
ter, competing in the senior
boys' division, copped a num-
ber of firsts during the meet
but just failed in his bid for
Championship honors,
The Exeter team, consisting
of some 40 athletes, made the
trip to Kincardine by bus and
they finished fourth in the com-
petition among the eight cen-
tres participating in the meet.
Port Elgin once again walked
off with first position in the
standings with their total of
152 points. Exeter managed 116
points for their fourth-place fin-
ish.
'More detailed results of the
competition and the list of Exe-
ter winners will appear in next
week's T-A.
Exeter Lawn Bowling club
staged a very successful mixed
lobrnament for local bowlers at
the Exeter green on Wednesday
afternoon.
Winners of the two-game jit-
ney were R. E. I'ooley and. Hugh
Jove. The two teamed up to
win both their games and fin-
ish with a plus of 16.
Second place in the contest
went to the threesome of Ray
Mills, Feed Tilley, and Mrs.
Lillian P'yni who took both their
games and finished with a plus
of one,

Smith captured third spot with
their record of one win and a
plus of 13,.
After a smorgasbord lunch
prepared by the ladies of the
club, the members staged a one-
game playdown fora cake and
a 'ladies' hat donated by Mrs.

their playoff round this week
when they received the third
and deciding game of the se-
ries.
The final game was to have
been played in New Hamburg

Mrs. Ethel Shank, 60, widow
of John Shank, Parkhill, died
in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, on Friday, August 3.
Mrs. Shank, was born in
North Dakota and came to
the Parkhill area. Mr, Shank
predeceased her four years ago.
Surviving are three daughters,
Mrs, Roy (Ada) Dietrich, Dash-
wood, Mrs. Cecil (Ellen) Smith-
ers, Parkhill, Mrs. Ross (Eve-
lyn) Pickering, Dashwood, three
sisters, Mrs, Stanley (Muriel)
Chute, Brantford; Mrs. Lee
(Lottie) Chute, Mrs. Henry
(Ada) Martin, both of British
Columbia; two brothers, Frank
Blair, British Columbia, Nor-
man Brandon, Alan., 11 grand-
children and four great grand-
children.
The funeral service was held
on Monday, July 30 at the Al,
Box and Son funeral home,
Parkhill, with interment in
Grand Bend cemetery,
Pallbearers were three grand-
sons, Milton Dietrich, Gerald
Gousher and Glen Woodburn,
also Milton Chute, William Bale
tram and Carman Woodburn.

to come up with his "ace" on
the 183-yard hole,
Witnesses to the feat were

Despite the Centralia golfer's
one-stroke hole, the Clinton
team captured the tournament
