A number of district resi-
dents attended the unveiling
Sunday at Rannock of the
cairn erected in memory of
John Switzer and his wife,
Agnes Corneille, who came to
Canada from Limerick County,
Ireland, in June, 1843,
They were among the first
settlers in Blanshard and
settled on the corner farm of
North Mitchell road and the
end of the fourth concession.
Five sons and two daughters
came with them, one son and
one daughter remaining in the
old land.
There were 77 grandchildren
in Canada, of whom four are
still .living-Mrs. Alice Switzer,
who Ives in Australia; her sis-
ter, Airs. Agnes Ribey, Sit
Thomas; Mrs. Nettie Hookway,
Mitchell road, and her sister,
Mrs. Rev. George Sparling,
who unveiled the. cairn.
Mrs, Sparling and her hus-
band were, missionaries in west
China, as was a cousin, Miss
Mary Switzer Hater Mrs, Harry

youngest son of the pioneer
couple, Henry, inherited the
family farm, and passed it on
to his son, Milton. Milton's
sister, Ethel Switzer, was John
Barnett's mother.
Part of the original grave-
stone, which is more than 100
years old, has been preserved
in one side of the cairn,
Mrs, Norman McDonald,
William St., and Mrs. William
Thomson, Andrew St., are
great granddaughters of the
pioneer couple.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomson ac-
companied Mrs. Esther Petti-
bone, Aylmer, to the ceremony.

consisting of songs by the entire
congregation expressing anni-
versary greetings, also duets
and solos, original poem and
two skits. The Youth. Fellow-
ship aid the Sunday School
sang various songs and gave a
recitation.
The basem it had been dec-
orated by the young people, who
also helped the Ladies Aid in
the serving of refreshments.
Gifts were, presented consist-
ing of a bookcase and of kitchen
ware.
The event was also enjoyed
by one of their sons, Rev, and
Mrs, Carl Van Farowe, and
children, Cynthia and. PAul, of
Tampa, Florida,
