The Diefenbaker gov't "has
left a trail of shambles which
everyone can see," charged
Miss Judy La Marsh, Niagara
Falls MP in the last parliament,
at a Liberal rally here Thurs-
day night.
"Mr. Diefen.baker is not con-
cerned with good government
hut with politics," the woman
lawyer told a sweltering crowd
of close to no in the high school
auditorium. ''He has spent five
years in office politicking, lie
is concerned only with his own
future."
Electing Diefenbaker has cost
Canada a drop from third to
fifth as a trading nation, six
straight deficit budgets, and
the highest unemployment the
country has every faced, she
maintained.
Last month, there were am,-
non unemployed in Canada, a
situation which affected every.
one regardless of their job.
"You can't sell to those who
haven't a wage." she said, "The
gov't can't tax those wh o
haven't a wage."
"What will happen to the chil-
dren who finish school,", she
asked. ''What will they do with
their education when there are
no jobs waiting?"
Miss La Marsh criticized the
devaluation of the dollar,
claiming that it would increase
the cost of living. A year ago,
Finance Minister Fleming said
it would be a gamble to reduce
the dollar, lie bought and sold
dollars until the International
Monetary Fund became greatly
concerned. The speculation is,
she said, that the Conservatives
could no longer hold the line
and had to peg the dollar to
try to hold it from dropping
further.
She criticized the Coyne al-
fair as "disgraceful" and
charged that the gov't "has fed
our enemies and fought with
our friends." Britain needs
understanding over her com-
mon market interests and the
Diefenbaker attitude has been
nothing but "negative and
hysterical."
Ernie Fisher, Huron's Liberal
candidate, cited some of the
effects of the dollar devalua-
tion. Farm machinery is up
nine percent, coal up $1.00 per
ton; oranges up five cents per
dozen.
He said the PC's made so
many promises that couldn't
be fulfilled that Fleming had
to peg the dollar as a last
resort.
Chairman Garnet Hicks,
L'sborne, extended a "Warm"
welcome to the crowd. Partici-
pating in the meeting were
Mrs. Beecher Menzies, Clinton,
and two Goderich lawyers,
Kenneth Hunter and Daniel
Murphy.
"This is Miss Bell, ter evert
on precious stones."
