fOr, and. they already have Billy O'Dell off to a
miraculous start.
The Dodgers on the other hand are stacked
with pitching talent and this is backed up by the
fact that Sandy KotUax, Stan Williams .and Don
Drysdale finished in the league last year.
,if big :Frank Howard starts to live up to.
all the glorious adjectives used to describe him
he could lead the batsmen such as Wally Moon,
Daryl Spencer And the Davis boys to high enough
pinnacles to give the mound staff their needed,
support.
The "old guard" at St. Louis are our choice
for third spot and a look at the recent standings
shows 'that' that is not as crazy• as it may sound,
Stan .Musial, who is slated for :retirement in the
not too distant future, is off at a fast clip and was
close. to .400 recently. Outfielder Curt Flood was
knocking the ball with authority as well and Ken
Boyer is still in a class all his own at third base,
The addition of Minnie Minoso should give
,them a few more home runs and Curt Simmons is
amazing everyone with his pitching prowess after
a number of so-so years.
The Milwaukee Braves have the.potenLal, to
win it all in the league but they can never seem
to get all their big names going at one time to be
consistent. Warren Spahn is still around and that
is the backbone of the pitching staff and Henry
Aaron, Eddie Mathews and Mack ,tones are among
the top hitters around, so they shouldn't drop
lower than fourth,
ft sounds rather ridiculous to knock last
year's pennant winners from Cincinnati all the way
to fifth, but they've lost Gene Freese for part of
the early season and it. is doubtful whether Jay
and O'Toole will duplicate last year's sparkling
performances.
The Pirates don't appear to be much better
than their sixth place showing of last year after
their win in 1960. However, if Vern Law regains
his form and Dick Stuart, Roberto Clemente and
Dick Groat regain their form they could be con-
tenders.
So, our list in the National League is: San
Francisco, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Cin-
•cinnati, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago
and .New York. •

right behind with a 630, Far-
quhar's high game was a 281
in the first, while. Wright's 244
was the best in the second.
The locals, mho bad previous-
ly won a similar tournament in
Sarnia this year, were defending
the championship an Exeter
team won in St. Marys last
year. Three of the team in the
person of Cesar, Wright: and
Farquhar were -also members
of last year's championship
crew.
They also established another
mark in .Kincardine when they
finished second in total pinfall
among all the competing teams,
being topped only by a senior
boys club from Owen Sound,
Hank Gosar brought further
honors to the club with his 682
triple in the preliminary round.
The mark earned him the high
triple trophy among all the
junior boys. He had a single of
284 in his prize-winning effort.
Bill Farquhar 'was right be-
hind his team mate with his
681 triple in the final match.
Girls follow example
The junior girls didn't leave
all the honors to their male co-
horts as they also copped the
team trophy and Helen Camp-
bell brought home an individual
award with her 259 single,
The locals placed second a-
mong the six teams in the pre-
liminary round, but took all
three final games from Listowel
to cop the award.
Helen Campbell, who scored
her high single in the first
round, was still bitting them
in the final and paced the at-
tack with a 638 triple.
This mark was just a few pins
short of the winning high triple
mark in the junior girls divi-
sion.
Other members of the win-
ning squad were Phyllis 'Madge,
Sue Ann Lindenfield, Penny
Preszcator and Lana Keller.,
Two other junior squads and
one -senior boys entry from Exe-
ter competed in the tournament.
Members of these teams were:
Junior girls — Barbara Skin.
