The Timea.AdvocAta, May 17, 1962 Pap
By MRS. M. H. El-STQN
Eight champions were de-
clared at the Exeter Public
School track meet held. Friday,
but for half the champions it
was nothing unusual to have
their names at the top of the
list in the respective divisions.
For Uilke Nagel, Joan Camp-
bell and Barry Baynham it was
the second time they have top-
ped the long list of competitors
at the school to win a cham-
pionship, while Jack Glover
won his third with a repeat
win in the senior boys ' division.
Glover had a perfect after-
noon, recording a first place
finish in each of his four events,
He also picked up further
acclaim as the only competitor
to better one of the existing
records,
The speedy youngster made a
tremendous leap of 16' 10 " in
the running broad jump to add
a full 5 ' to the record previ -
ously held by Fred Ward.
It was the second year in a
row that Glover won the senior
boys ' division and he also won
the junior division a few years
ago.
Second for Nagel
Uilke Nag el, the OW other
Competitor to have a perfect
day, won his second champion-
ship when he stood first in the
intermediate boys ' division. He
had previously won the pee wee
title.
Nagel was one of three com -
petitors to tie existing track
records when be covered the
75-yard dash in 10 seconds flat.
This figure put his name into
the record book beside Fred
Ward. c.rid Glover.
The other repeat champions
came in the junior division
where Joan Campbell and Barry
Baynham repeated efforts they
had accomplished in the pee
wee divisions two years ago.
Joan picked up a total of 15
points with her three first place
finishes, while Baynham had a
total of 10 points in the com-
petitive boys ' group,
Dale MacKenzie, who won the
pee wee boys' championship,
had the closest battle as he held
only a slim one-point, margin
over four other hoys. MacKen-
zie picked up six points, while
Peter Glover, Ross Huntley,
Richard Bailey and Mark Hey-
Wood were all tied for second
with five Points.
Turn about
Two young ladies competing
in the pee wee girls ' division
apparently felt that turnabout
was fair play as they exchanged
positions they held last year,
Kathy Wells copped the honors
this year with a total of it
points, While Ca thy ilolhin n
la st year's champ placed sec-
ond With eight,
Darlene Parsons copped her
first honor with a win in the
intermediate girls' oleos, while
Marianne deVries won the sen-
ior class. She WAS actually tied
With Terri Laughton for the,
'tenth's, but won the top Wit
When a special event was held
to break the tie.
Terri Laughton however won
A special honor when her name
went into the record books when
she tied the e'x'isting JO second
Mark for the "75-yard dash. The
mark is now shared in the books
by Donna Bridges, Barbara
Janke; Carob she Si ltimons And
Sheila rainier, all who have
toeotded the exact time,
The only other record threat•
enecl itt the meet was the senior
girls' high jump when Margaret
Bosch established A' Mark of
43' 1P", HOWe'Very she had to
settle for a tie with the existing
record jointly held by Minna'
Bridges and Darlene SOB.
