Hockey .scoreboard Goalie Glenn Stites added to the team's laurels when he was picked as the outstanding net- minder in the event that at- tracted 12 teams from the area and from London, Ingersoll and Point Edward. The young netminder allowed only two goals in his two ap- pearances and was a standout le the team's final game against Point Edward after he had an easy time in chalking up a shutout in the first game. Sub-goalie Rick Brintnell also helped in the shut-out, playing the final period in the opener against Byron. Red and Maxine Loader's squad were the only area puck- Mors to pick up a champion- ship, while Zurich copped the "C" consolation event and derton did the same in the "D" class. The results of the games were as follows: Ailsa Craig 2 — Lucan 0 Although the St. Patrick's Day affair should have been a natural for the green-shirted Lucan Leprechauns, they fell victim to Ailsa Craig in the opener by a 2-0 count. Dale Schram paced the at- tack for the winners, pushing them into a one-goal margin after one minute of play in the first period and coming back to sink an insurance tally mid- way through the final stanza, The Ailsa Craig squad dom- inated play throughout the con- test and out-shot Lucan 12.3, but they had difficulty solving the netminding of Jim Nagle in the Leprechauns' nets. Exeter 9 — Byron 0 The Exeter six had little dif- ficulty in their iaitial encounter drubbing Byron 9.0 as they kept their opposition bottled up in their end throughout the tilt. Barry Baynham started the locals off with a tally after only one minute of play and they never stopped until the final whistle, adding two more in the first period, potting a brace in the second and four in the third. Baynham added another tally to run his total to two, as did John. Loader and Allen Diller, Single tallies. were picked up by .Bill Fairbairn, Frank de- Vries and Peter Lawson. . The locals had 18 Shots on the net, while Stites and 'Mirth nett were called on for only five saves, ingertelt 13 — Mensal! lionsall's entry had a tough time in the tournament as they were pitted Against Ingersoll iii their opener and Were he match for the squad from the larger centre. The. winners moved ahead 1.0 on a goal by Walt Parkin- son late in the first period and the teams battled on even. terms before Jerry -Howard and Dennis Stead fired the clinchers behind Steve Bruns. kil. Each team had 10 shots on the net in the tilt. CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES Exeter's entry was the first to win a championship when they edged Point Edward in a. thrilling 4-2 match before the supper hour. Glenn Stires was called on In make 15 saves in the fast game and one of the gOals he gave up was actually pushed in by a team mate attempting to cover up in front of the net, Bryanston 3 — Ailsa Craig 1 A team from Bryanston, or- ganized only this year, pulled the biggest upset in the tourna- ment when they skated to a 3-1 win over Ailsa Craig in the "D" championship, Walt Parkinson started them off with a tally. at the 11:05 mark ,of the middle period and ;Terry Howard gave them a two- goal edge at the 9:40 mark of the final stanza, However, .Bob Scrimgeour whittled the lead to 2-1 exactly two minutes later to pull the losers back into contention but Howard came back with. his second goal 20 seconds later to pull the game out of reach of Ailsa Craig.
