At the first and organization-
al meeting of unit I United
Church Women of James Street
church on Thursday afternoon,
Mrs. W, H. Hodgson was elect-
ed secretary and Mrs. R. E.
Pooley, treasurer. Mrs, James
Smith is leader of the unit.
Other appointments included:
assistant leader, Mrs, Rufus
Kestle; program convener,
Mrs. H, H. Cowen; representa-
tive to community friendship
and visitation committee, Mrs.
Samson McFalls; representa-
tive to social functions com-
mittee, Mrs. Laura Harvey.
Mrs. H. Powe took the Bible
study on "The Church of
Christ — Its Nature" dealing
with the "Church in Jerusa-
lem'' and the "Church in
Canada".
Plans were made to cater
for the AOTS supper on Mon-
day, February 12.
The 'allocation for 'each of
the units is $268 for the year.

Ingersoll.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson F. Soden,
Ingersoll. The groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Marriage, Charles St. E.. In-
gersoll, formerly of Exeter.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was lovely in a
floor-length gown of Chantilly
lace and nylon tulle over satin.
The elongated lace bodice
featured a portrait neckline
framed by pleated nylon tulle
yoke and the billowing skirt
was fashioned with deep polo-
naise of lace. Her waist-length
French illusion veil was held
by a tiara of pearls and rhine-
stones and she carried a
bouquet of red roses and white
poms knotted with white satin
ribbon,
Mrs. Eleanor Fick, Ingersoll.
attended the bride wearing a
street-length dress of white
nylon watermelon and match-
ing accessories. She carried a
bouquet of yellow poms.
Roger Fick was best man.
A reception was held at 108
Cherry St. The bride's mother
chose a blue silk print dress
and a corsage of white poms,
The groom's mother assisted
wearing a dress of royal blue
silk crepe with matching ac-
cessories and a corsage of
white poms.
For travelling to Detroit and
points west, the bride chose a
mauve shag suit with black
accessories.
On their return, the couple
wit reside in Ingersoll.
Recently a number of show-
ers have been given in honor
of the couple in Detroit, Lon-
don and Ingersoll.

Make a heart-shaped pie
shell by placing rolled pastry
dough over an inverted heart-
shaped mold or layer cake tin,
hake and cool.
Filling
i envelope unflavored
gelatin
1/4 cup cold water '
4 cups strawberries
(fresh or frozen)
1 small cup sugar
2/3 cup boiling water
1. tbl lemon juice
1 cup whipped cream,
Soften , the gelatin in cold
water. Chop 1-1/2 cups of her.
ries and puree them through

berries, Dissolve, the. sugar in
boiling water, add gelatin and
stir until dissOlved. Add the
pureed berries and 1 e in o n
juice and cool until it begins
to set. Fold in the whole her- iies
Turn into the pie shell and
chill until the mixture is firm.
Garnish with whipped cream.
For variety try folding in the
whipped cream with the filling,

Enrolment night finally came
for those to be enrolled as
Guides. This entitles them to
wear their Guide uniform com-
plete with Guide pin instead of
their Brownie .uniform,
The nine enrolled were:
Yvonne MacNaughton, Susan
Bailey, Karen. McArthur from
the Canary Patrol: Eleanor
Stanlake from the Scarlet Tan-
ager Patrol; Judy Estey and
Jill. Harness from the Bluebird
Patrol; Gail Shipman, Roberta
Grassick and Paulette Schroe-
der from the Oriole Patrol. A
few parents attended this
event,
Mary Cochrane was award-
ed her second class; Elizabeth
Snell re --passed her second
class; Judy Sylvester and Elea-
nor Stanlakc passed their
police and doctor phone num-
bers; Anne Creech was suc-
cessful in passing her tender-
foot knots.
Campfire was conducted by
PL Carolynne Simmons, Var-
ious skits were presented, Taps
was sung and the good night
salute was taken by Captain
Sturrock.

elect officers
The first meeting of the Ellin-
ville 4-H Homemaking club was
held at the home of Mrs. Al-
len Johns Monday evening.
Club leaders are Mrs. 'Del-
mer Skinner and Mrs. Johns
and assistant leader, Mrs. Nor-
man ,Taques.
Officers were elected. Presi-
dent is Frances Skinner; vice.-
president, Janet Skinner, sec-
retary - treasurer, Shirley Ja-
ques; press reporter, Marga-
ret Skinner, telephone conven-
ers, Shirley Johns, Kathy
Hero.
The club was named "Elim-
Ville Country Pals".
Mrs. johns held a discussion
on choosing styles and Mrs.
Jaques on selecting materials.
Next meeting will be Monday
evening, Feb, 12 at the home of

of Huron County's Children's
Aid Society.
Miss McGowan joined the•
CAS staff in 1946 and was as-
sistant director until the re-
tirement of Rev, B. Ci. mem,
Ian when she was appointed
acting director in September
1961.
She will be in complete sup•
ervision of a staff of four field
workers and two clerical of-
fice workers. •
Huron County Children's Aid
Society has 30 permanent
wards who remain the wards
of the CAS until they are 18-
years-old and 19 temporary
wards who are looked after for
less than two years.
Last year there were 43 chil-
dren placed on adoption
through CAS and eight privat-
ly placed. There were 65. ap-
plications for adoption of
which the Huron County CAS
obtained 27 adoption orders for
children,
The CAS helped 275 children
of 73 families during the year.
Born in Wawanosh East, the
new director is the daughter of
the late Daniel McGowan and
his wife the former Isabel
Ross, She has one sister who
is now living in London,
M 1 s s McGowan graduated
from Stratford Teachers Col-
lege and University of Toronto
school for social ivorkers. She
taught missionary children for
the United Church. of Canada in
Chengtu, China, from 1933 to
1937, "I just got out of Shang-
hai before it was bombed,"
she said, Chengtu is located
2,000 miles inland from Shang-
hai via the Yangtse River,
She later taught in the Prot-
estant children's' homes in To-
ronto, _Morris 'township, Guelph
and in' Wawanosh township un-
til she joined the staff of the
Children's Aid Society in Code-
rich.

work was given by Mrs. Har-
ry Muir, St. Marys, at the
meeting of 'Beta Sigma Phi So-
rority held at the home of Mrs.
William Schaeffer, Kir k I. o n,
Tuesday evening,
Mrs. Muir was introduced. by
Mrs, Schaeffer and thanked by
Mrs. R. C, Dinney.
Plans were made for. a pro-
gressive dance to take place
In March and names were ex-
changed for secret pals for
this year. Mrs. M. C. Fletcher
was presented with a gift in
appreciation of her work as
sponsor of the chapter. Presi-
dent Mrs. Joe Wooden con-
ducted the business.
A white elephant sale was
held with Mrs. Dinney as auc-
tioneer netting $20. Draws
were won by Mrs. Schaeffer
and Miss Jung Reeling.

Robert Fletcher assisted the
hostess.
Cheery heart-shaped salads
for Valentine's Day range in
color from blushing pink to
ruby red when ready-to-serve
cranberry sauce is used,
1 1/2 tbl. unflavored gelatin
1.14 cup cold water
1 pound can of whole
cranberry sauce
1 tbl. lemon juicy.
1/4 tp salt
3/4 cup crushed • pineapple
drained
3/4 pkg (8-ounce) cream
cheese
1/2 cup cream whipped
Place gelatin in custard cup,
Add cold water. Let stand 2
min. Place cup with gelatine
in pan of boiling water and
heat until gelatin is dissolved.
Add to whole cranberry sauce.
Stir in lemon juice. and salt.
Chill until mixture begins to
thicken, Add pineapple and
cheese and fold in whipped
cream. Turn into heart-shaped
mold,
Tomato Aspic
To make a tomato aspic in-
stead of using plain gelatin, use
a package of raspberry jelly
powder. Use the kind with the
"flavor bud" and remove and
save it Make the aspic in the
usual way using tomato juice
instead of water, Chill in heart-
shaped molds, The aspic is a
lovely shade of red,
