in South Huron Hospital on Fri-
day, January 12 after an ill-
ness of several days.
Mr. and. Mrs. Holland for-
merly lived in West Lorne and

ject to a maximum of 10.

may he obtained by a teacher
who, in addition 'to holding the
Standard 1 or equivalent certi-
ficate, holds a BA degree from
an Ontario university, or a de-
gree considered equivalent by
the minister.
The students graduating from
the teachers' colleges in June,
1962, will be granted the appro-
priate new-type certificates and,
early in February, 1.962, the
minister will announce the de-
tails of the procedure to he fol-
lowed by qualified teachers
wishing to replace the certifi-
cates they now hold with new
certificates of the appropriate
level,
It is hoped that the establish-
ment of the four levels of cer-
tificate, will provide an incen-
tive to elementary-school teach-
ers to improve their qualifica-
tions year by, year, and that a
large proportion of those 'for
whom teaching becomes a ca-
reer will raise their certifi-
cates from level to 1 e v e 1,
through extramural or intra-
mural study, and will ultimate-
ly be successful in obtaining
university degrees,

The plan, which will be im-
plemented in 1062, is designed
to encourage teachers to im-
prove their academic and pro-
fessional competence through
university study and attendance

school teacher's certificate is
the basic teaching certificate
now issued to Ontario' elemen-
tarar-school. teachers. The new
plan will. -replace this certifi-
cate, and its predecessor, the
first class certificate, by pro-
viding four levels of certifi-
cate, Teachers will be granted
elementary-school teacher's cer-
tificates, Standard 1, Standard
2, Standard 3 or Standard 4
according to their qualifica-
